hammacher schlemmer alkaline battery charger

I did not think it was possible before I read this article
So it might work but not for long on the same battery.
And it will not recharge the battery if it's discharged over a certain point.

It also juse 8-16 hours to charge depending on the state of the battery.

For that price I think you are betther of buying a good nimh charger.

I had one of those alkie chargers...

The short answer is that it's not worth the money or effort.

The longer answer involves varying degrees of charge status, mixed results, potential for leakage, poor performance, etc.

and read the comments right below the artical, as I and just about everyone who has charged alkalines they discover over TIME that the containers around the alkaline are not capable of keeping them from leaking, and the containment of an alkaline has gotten worse and worse (thinner cheaper) over the ages.

if you "top" them off, with any charge alogrythm, even the most contrived alogrythm you can think of to keep it from leaking, they will still leak Many times faster than they do normally :-(

if you gonna charge alkalline then get a alkaline that is properly contained for charging, like the Renewell battery, they had MUCH better containment and even hard fast charging they rarely leaked.
trying to charge your everyday tossaway alakline will just ruin more stuff , and then IT will be filling up the dumps too ;-)

alakalines have always been capable of being topped off with a charge, it CAN be done, it was done properly (with proper containment) and even when properly done it was a pretty sad operation that didnt live up to its claims.

Bout what I figured. $70 will buy a lot of batterys including some 18650's and rechargeable 123's and chargers for both. The way I have been going thru 123's lately, I need rechargeables.

That's my experience, too. I had one of those Buddy-L alkaline chargers when they first came out, and it virtually guaranteed leaking cells, regardless of manufacturer. Now, I only use charged alkalines in disposable devices... which is to say not at all!

a word of warning.i had an alkaline charger that would revive alkaline batteries untill on of my cell went BANG:oops:firing the cell off the celing. they tell not to recharge them for a reason...i found out the hard way.
