Has anyone tried anything similar? I've just ordered a dx 50mm aspherical lens in the post.

I've since found other posts on mtbr forums discussing automotive hid on a bike and hid projectors fitted with led, and aspherical lenses (if that is the proper term) get used in flashlight mods. So been covered already.
