I'm kinda new around here. I keep hearing about these HDS lights. Can someone link me to their site, or a dealer that sells them? I gotta see what all the fuss is about. :)

A new model is supposed to come out this summer. The current ones are all sold out. You might find the current model in BST, if you are lucky.

First of all, I own a P2D and an unmodded U60GT. After giving this question some thought, I would say the HDS. The ability to use rechargables and maintain all brightness levels and the li-ion battery protection and the programability and the lower light levels(below 10 lumens) make the HDS the clear winner.

if fenix would do a few things it could be a better light than the HDS
a)clean up that beam
b)leave the bodies in the hard anodize bath a bit longer, so that the finish is more durable
c)give us a really low low level (1 lumen at most)
d)knurl the darn bodies
e)how bout a clip? it wouldnt be that hard to add on
if they did that raised the price a little to make up for the added labor, it would whip the HDS's behind

yeah..the "Disregard price" kind of makes this a one sided discussion...

Sort of like, "disregarding calories", would you choose to eat fruit and cereal or french toast and sausages for breakfast. Doesn't mean that fruit and cereral isn't a better breakfast for some...
Nice way with words you have there. :) Why can't I say things as eloquently? :(

The sad news is these lights are no longer available new. You may pick one up on BST they come up fairly regularly or wait until there new light is released, which hopefully won't be too much longer.

You forgot a few points IMO:
f) add polarity protection
g) make sure users can change the levels to adapt them to their needs
h) get rid of that horrible switch with its clicking noises
i) make sure the light can use rechargeables without losing its levels
j) add protection against overheating

I'm sure there are several other points I forgot.

I would also mention the absolute perfect flat regulation, a lifetime waranty, a locator flash option.

lifetime warranty comes with a fenix if im not mistaken, the regulation is pretty darn flat, and your the first person i think ive ever seen want the locator flash.

You're right about the Fenix waranty, regulation is good but not perfect as an HDS and the locator flash is the most usefull option for me. I spend a good part of my life in the woods, so believe me, I need it. It has even saved my HDS once, i lost it and found it at night because of that blinky-blinky.

If your light is on a shelf, it's true, you don't need a locator flash.

mine didnt stay on a shelf, it stayed on a lanyard. problem solved.

Mine too but I don't sleep with a lanyard ! When you are waken up at night by the sound of a bear, you are happy to quickly find your flashlight.:caution:
