This is my first post in the headlamp section, so please bare with me!

Having numerous flashlights, I am beginning to see the purpose of a headlamp when I'm working on the car in less than ideal light condition and just fixing up things around the house in darker environments. I don't think this headlamp will see anything else that is different.

Having no knowledge with headlamps, I don't know where to begin. I have been looking at the Zebralight H30 mainly for my applications. My main concern is the pure flood beam profile that the H30 carries. Having numerous high powered LED lights, I'm not sure if I can be adjusted to the lower 80 lumen pure flood beam. I was going to purchase the Surefire Minimus but I really want to avoid another light needing primaries. My last alternative was simply purchase the Fenix headband and attaching my other LED lights to it. I am however concerned about the weight of attaching a heavy flashlight to my head for hours.

I don't mind spending a little for something that is spectacular (hopefully less than the Surefire though)

Which route should I take? Thanks!

I have a Zebralight H501. I also use a Maratac AAA light as a temporary headlamp on the same headband occasionally. The flashlight attached to the side of the head works well for short duration. But it won't replace a dedicate headlamp, especially if you need even pure flood light for close range work.

I have some high powered flashlights too. There is nothing for me to adjust to. The pure flood of Zebralight headlamps is made for the work you describe. ZL headlamps, however, are much more than headlamps when used with some creativity and imagination. Check out the H501 thread for the numerous ways their headlamps can be used.

Zebralight are making new headlamps and flashlights that will be available in about 2 months. Definitely wait if you can. Here is a discussion about that http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=244433&highlight=zebralight

A headlamp will be a welcomed addition to your tool box.

The Fenix HP10 is nice , good throw beam , but you may not like the batt. pack on the rear of your head - if lying down while doing projects.

Hmmm, maybe I should wait a couple of months and see how the new Zebralight will turn out... after all I have been without a headlamp all this time

headlamps with rear mount battery packs
almost always allow the sliding of the pack
around on the headband
so its near your ear.

Allows a mechanic to work
laying down without the pack being a hard pillow.

Note on the Petzl Myo Xp you are able to slide the
headlamp piece instead around for the same comfort
factor if working laying down.
