Hi,

Please excuse me if a similar question has already been asked on flashlights.

A friend of mine is going on an off-road bike race and will also be riding during the night in many areas where the comfort of street lights will not be available.

He is looking for powerful headlight and flashlight (bike mountable). Both should be powerful, rain proof, and less battery hungry.

Any advice/recommendation would be appreciated.

Cheers.

What kind of terrain, how long will it need to last, and what types of batteries does he want?

The terrain will be forest/dirt road, batteries to last several hours at least to avoid frequent changing, and not fussed as to the type of battery.

I don't mean to yank your chain, but try at the Transportation lighting: Bicycles forum. They're the experts. Do you want a bike/flash light and also a headlamp, or something that fills all three roles? They'll want to know.

Sorry, didn't realise there was a dedicated bicycle forum.

I'll copy my question there.

Cheers.

I have a Dinotte 400L on my helmet that I am quite happy with. It is sufficiently bright, yet very lightweight. I haven't crashed with it on my head yet, but it seems plenty durable. Since he wants a light on his helmet and on his bars, I would recommend the dual 400L kit. The kit also includes several lenses to adjust the beam pattern. Dinotte has a lot other options that your friend might want to look at too.

I'm not sure what the weatherproof rating is on these lights, though. Someone here might know, but if not, send Dinotte an email.

Please don't do that. There's a Rule (#9) forbidding cross-posting, as it just causes duplication and confusion.

The correct procedure is to ask a moderator to move it for you, which I will do now.
