heat sink ok?

I'm new to all this.

I am planning to use a cree xpg at 700ma.
CREE XPG R5 WC Dia.20mm LED

Will a thin piece of aluminum about 3*5" be an okay heatsink? (it's a cover for a wall switchplate)
I have no idea how much heat these generate.

I think that it will be okay heatsink.

Do not forget the thermal grease or epoxy. Cree XP-G run cooler than the other Cree emitters and 700 mA is not pushing it very hard. If I was you, I would mount the Cree XP-G emitter on the aluminum plate in question and run it at 700 mA and monitor it temperature. If it becomes too hot to touch comfortably then I would give it the thumbs down. If it is warm or hot but still "holdable" then I would proceed.

I have a CREE P4 star bolted to a 5"X5"X1/8" aluminum plate running at 600 mA (2W). I use it for lighting my computer station. The temperature of the opposite side of the plate just below the star runs about 15 degrees C above ambient. It now has run about 12,000 hours and I don't notice any dimming yet.
