I'm aware that Peak & HDS do a reasonable approximation of the Arc-AAA & Arc-4 repectively, and was wondering who does the best approximation of the Arc-LS (build-quality, brightness, size & switch) now that Arc itself no longer exists.

The LS has long been my ideal EDS flashlight, and I'd feel safer if I could source a reasonable replacement (particularly after a recent flap caused by my feckless youngest nephew pocketing my LS).

how about a longbow micra - 30 lumens for 1.5 hours on 1x 123 - choice of clickie or twisty -easy to mod to reflector or change Optic

The T1 is built very well, but has almost no side spill to speak of.

The Longbow Micra has excellent exterior finish, but just mediocre ciruitry and optics. A change to reflector helps the optics, but there is not much one can do to improve the circuitry at this point, that I know of.

I think it will be a while before a light comes out that exceeds or equals the LS series, IMO.

You can roll your own McCapsule for the Longbow to replace the stock screw-in pill. Allows you to upgrade the electronics to one of Wayne's converter boards.

I agree with the T1. Built like a tank, only needs one cell, GREAT throw (though poor sidespill), HAIII coated, AWESOME PRICE!!! As an EDC, who cares if you lose it? At that price you can buy about four of 'em before you get into the Arc LS price range. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sounds like something I'd definitely want to do. Is it easy? I'm not that talented with electronics.

It's pretty easy -- I'm no electronics wiz, and I was able to do it. The most difficult part was soldering four tiny wires to Wayne's converter board. The rest was cake. Here is a set of instructions, with pictures. Over here is a thread in which I solicited advice about building my first McCapsule. If you have questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

Very reasonable. Brand new, they were $99 for the standard and $160 for the Premium. You got a great deal, assuming it is in fact new.

Seconds were $50, and once you get the Arc LS you ordered you can check the serial number to see if its a second. If it is, then its still a reasonable deal, considering the market (huge demand, no supply).

We're going to buy all of them up soon. I placed an order a couple of days ago from Supremeco for a few as well.

IMO the Fire~Fly is the real heir to the Arc LS. The LS was at its best with the 1x123 twisty and the other tail packs weren't completely in the same spirit.

Another alternative is the Surefire E1+KL1 combination, especially with the new 3 watt KL1. The new Vitalgear pushbutton power packs are also interesting with the KL1.

The "new" KL1 heads are not 3 watts. Just got one, and the package clearly stated "1 Watt". It is a "Luxeon III". . . I never knew the difference, but it was explained in one of the "New KL1" threads, by Size 15s, IIRC. Learned 'me somthin'! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Still, I agree that the E1e with KL1 (either old or new) is a very worthy light. For more throw, go with the "new" KL1, for more flood, the "old" KL1 (while you can still get them). The difference is quite noticeable.

I agree, firefly II is the heir. ARC LS with twisty is shorter but fatter. FFII is longer but thinner. As an EDC, the firefly is the best until a CR2 light comes on the market.

Regards.

I'm also looking for an LSH-Heir... looking for a light to replace my lost LSH.
Any thoughts on the Key-Lux from TNC as a possible replacement?

What kind of prices are you seeing on the KL1, I noted some at the local Turners for 56.00

I second that, the aleph 2 seems like an awesome light. The model with the nexgen 750 definitely the way I'd go. If I had the money I'd probably order one right now...

I just checked.... they're only like $95 US. What's to keep me from buying all their stock and reselling them?

Would I be hit with import taxes/duties/customs/etc?

If not, then someone could make a decent amount of profit by doing this.
