A co-worker is going up to the mountains in the near future. He is wanting a light that uses AA batteries, has the brightness of at least a Q bin, and has a fairly long runtime. What should he get?

Thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif

the sammich hoghead mentionedwould be great.

also, though probably dimmer than the madmax (i think) the UK eLED might be a nice one. not a lotta throw, but still fairly bright with loooong runtime. might be able to use lithiums....but not sure.

UK eLED probably won't be bright enough. He wants it at least a Q bin in brightness, probably 400mA or so.

Re: Help. 2AA sandwich, Q brightness, long runtim

Some say that using a high ranked Lux in a low current applicant is a waste, but Wayne's idea is to have good brightness (not the most brightness) at a longer runtime with more efficiency and increased life for the Luxeon. By increasing the rank of the Lux, you are offsetting the decrease in power, maintaining the output.

The T rank in a MM lite should be close to a Q driven at spec, if not a little brighter (depending on vF).
