I was recently reading a great web site ran by TinWhistler who shows how he makes rechargeable 123 cells.
He discovered that 2 1/5 A size cells stacked together fit perfect as a 123 cell.He gave a link to a place called BatteryWorld however it does not work.It stated the mah was around 400 for each 1/5 A cell and said they work pretty well.
Has anyone tried this or can someone tell me if these cells are even available.
I searched here and on line to find nothing. The picture shows a lime green battery with the label of Tysonic 1/5A 400 mah written in black.I found a Tysonic web site but no luck on this size. The ones shown on TinWhistlers site are the NiMh rechargeable version. The entire site is very interesting to me but it looks like there is not much info on this topic anywhere else.

Battery Station carries them and will even put them together for you. My opinion was that it just wasn't worth it. If I remember correctly they were good for about 40 minutes in an ARC LS.

Thanks for the help Kitelights.I must have just missed it as I looked on that site and did not see anything.
I am sure it may not be worth the effort but the concept sounds kind of neat.I find myself using this light more and more on duty and home.It would be nice to have an option of rechargeables as I will use many batteries up.
I am planning modding this light soon or actually having LitFuse do it for me.Lux3 and bump the current to 667 mah for a much improved version of my LSL-ST.I guess with this mod the rechargeables would be even worse off due to more demand for current.
I would only consider this if it were pretty cheap to invest in these cells but it sounds like it was not.I have no idea of the cost involved with these cells.
Thanks again

Hi there Robo,

Yeah i didnt think 400mAh was very good either.
The same thing happened to me when i mod'd my first
mini mag flashlight. I used three N cells in series
which, at the time, seemed like a good idea. With a
small spacer and a minimum modification to the leads
of the LED you end up with a single LED flashlight.
Only problem is, with the N cells the run time isnt
very good so i end up never using that light.
It does work though, and it's pretty simple to do.

Take care,
Al

I must be blind but still did not see them on Battery Stations web site.Any idea how much the cost of these are?
Just curious about the future of rechargeable 123 cells.I wonder if there will ever be a decent, reliable performer able to put out close to what an actual lithium 123 does.
Hello MrAl and it is good to hear from you again.I also did the 3 n cell mod long ago(got the idea from you)and used a 3 LED set up in a MiniMag host.It was decent but unreliable and sucked those batteries down pretty quick.

It looks like they moved the page of their site, but the online ordering option doesn't seem to be there....

Also if you are looking for high capacity N cell nimh batteries, I found a site that sells 500mah cells, which are the highest power ones available right now from sanyo. Their model number is GP50NH and they can be ordered pretty cheap, with paypal payment as an option, from here:

I can't find the post. Give Kevin at Battery Station a call or email him. He had an offer for CPFers on these, but I don't remember what it was and I can't find it. It was somewhere around $8 for the pair and he was willing to tack weld them together if you wanted him to.

Don't even consider them for one of the beefed up mods. If they would work at all, I doubt if you'd get 5 - 10 minutes.

Robocop, jsburlys.com now has some 123-sized li ion rechargeable batteries that aren't so great either, but should be better than those nimh's.

Thanks and I may look into JSburly for some.I was wondering if two of these cells would power my Inova X5T.I really dont have anything else that would not eat these things up.My LSL is soon to be modded and I have a Pelicam M6 Led that uses 123 cells.
Really dont have a lot of use for some but still think it would be pretty neat to have a few.I do have a lot of modded lights running direct drive off of 123 cells. It would be fun to see how long these would last.
Anyone know whatever happened to the TinWhistler web site?
It seemed as if he just dissappeared and I never saw anything about his discovery ever again.Seemed like a smart guy with a lot of good material on his web site.
