Help finding a long runtime portable spotlight

reading the wealth of information here is mind boggling and hope someone can help me making a decision.
I am looking for a portable spotlight. I like it to have at least a 300 yard range and duration of about 5 hrs; bulk and weight are of concern as the light will be carried 100% of the time; last I would like to keep the price at about $150, although I do not know if this is reasonable so I could revise this figure. I am open to modding if necessary, and I would consider a light with a separate battery pack of reasonable weight which can be carried in a belt or backpack.

The Dorcy K2 Luxeon 4C battery LED spotlight is exactly what you are looking for. It should give the very long runtime that you need, and it has the 300 yard beam range. You will have to buy alkaline C batteries for the light and you might want to always have a spare set with you, however the LED emitter will never burn out and never needs to be replaced which is a huge plus.

Thanks for your help, I turns out this is going to be cheaper and simpler than I thought thanks to your advice.
As a bonus I just may be able to swing that aspherical maglite conversion I read about with the money you saved me.

You are very welcome. I think you will be very pleased with the performance of the Dorcy LED spotlight, as it is an extreme thrower and will definitely light up what you need to see. It's runtime will last the full five hours, and you can always put in the spare set of batteries if you need it to be at 100% brightness at any time during your usage durations. I have owned mine for quite a while and it is an incredibly useful and powerful light.

I realize this thread is from 2009 nonetheless, I have basically the same question and was wondering if there's now different options?

As well, the unit could have a DC option to run off the trucks 12v socket.
