I'm trying to find an inexpensive battery charger that can charge 4 AA or 2-4 AAA at a time. I'd like a quick (1-4 hour) smart charger with a folding type plug that can charge batteries up to 2700 mAh.

I think something like the Sanyo MQR03N would be good but the few places I can find selling them, none of which are in the US, only have the detachable power cord European version. I currently have a Maxell P2004 which appears to a rebadged Sanyo MQH01 so I'm guessing someone in the US probably sells the MQR03N under another name I just don't know who. Any suggestions including where to buy in the US would be appreciated. Thanks.

First define "inexpensive". Do you want "cheap", or do you want "good value for it's price".
If the latter, the specs on this one might interest you.

This charger looks good to me, I might have to pick one up. I like the lights showing charge, the only thing I was wondering is why does the charge rate drop in half when doing 4 batteries? Is this because they have to keep it small when it's a direct plugin, otherwise it would be too large for that with the added circuits or whatever?

The Duracell Power Gauge charger might also fit your bill. It's relatively inexpensive, has 4 independent channels with LEDs indicating the charging state for each. It generally charges in 4 hours or less (sometimes much less if the battery isn't that drained to begin with). It also provides a USB port to power usb powered devices when it isn't charging batteries. Only thing is that it uses a detachable power cord (no wall wart though) instead of a folding type plug.

Inexpensive in that I do want to spend as little as possible but not so little I have to buy something cheaply made that's going to shorten the life of my batteries or potentially burn my house down.

The Maha is a bit more than I'd like to spend and I don't really need the fancy LCD display.

The RayOVac might be OK but I don't see anything about how long it takes to charge or what type of plug it has.

As for the Duracell, I really do want a foldable plug, not a detachable power cord.

Thanks. I looked at the RayoVac site earlier but only found one charger.

Found one, the Kodak K6200 1 Hour Charger, not to be confused with the Kodak K620 Value Charger. Less than $20 at Walmart with 4 2500 mAh batteries or $35 at Circuit City with 4 of the new Kodak precharged batteries. It can also charge 1, 2, 3 or 4 AA or 1 or 2 AAA at a time.

i've heard great things about DURACELL CEF80NC too, seems to be a good charger but a light bulky (it require a separate AC adaptor)

any user opinion on the Kodak K6200?

i was going to get the DURACELL CEF80NC for my camera bag but i won't mind a less bulky charger

any other good charger that can charge 1-4 NiMH, and can be operated without a separate AC adaptor?

So far I like it. I've used it to charge all my batteries once with no problems. It's very compact, about 4.75" x 2.75" x 1.25" or 12 x 7 x 3cm and has an attached, fold out plug. Charges 4 AA 2500mAh batteries in just over 2.5 hours. The batteries get warm but not at all uncomfortable to touch or hold. It has overcharge and temperature protection and is compatible with worldwide voltages.
