Help I.D. this watch??

While looking for a new beater watch for duty I found this online. For some reason I like it however can not find a model number anywhere. I have looked at the hundreds of other Nautica watches and see none with the white dial and orange accents.

I was actually looking for a mechanical movement simply because it facinates me and I have never had anything other than quartz. This claims to be close to a "sweeping" second hand while keeping the quartz movement. None the less I like the look of this watch but simply cant find it for sale anywhere.....anyone have one or know the model number? Thanks for the time.

I have looked through Nauticas site at all of the mens watches with no luck. I tried searching "Nautica white dial chrono"... Nautica Sweep hand"...Nautica White dial orange accents"... Nautica Orange bezel ring"...ETC:

I am actually thinking of joining one of the watch forums to see if they may be able to help. I also searched various other forums again with no luck. I believe this may be one of last years models and may no longer be made or may be still made but with a few appearance changes.

Snap a still from the video and ask a watch forum; finding a single unique watch can be a needle in a haystack, especially with manufacturers that sell different models to different countries..

I got the PM and thank you as I will check into that forum. I really know better than to become interested in another hobby however watches facinate me....just like lights did so long ago and I have spent much money as a result.

I do not have the cash to play with the big boys however do not mind paying what I can for a decent product. While searching around last night I found myself thinking "well 800 dollars is not too bad for that watch" then I quickly closed the page. Man there is some very nice stuff out there as far as watches go.

Looks like it is either discontinued or simply still in production however not the same color as what I am looking for.

Having been into watches for awhile, I can honestly say that it's not like buying flashlights. With watches, no; you don't always get what you pay for. Someone a bit better at math than I am, figured that a new Rolex Sub should cost around $2700; factoring in the rate of inflation. A slight mark-up is expected so that the company can make a reasonable profit. Looking at what one of those actually retails for, the mark-up is simply obscene.

Even a generation ago, it was possible for many working stiffs to save up for one. In the '60s and '70s, it would not be unusual for an LEO to save up a bit and get a genuine Rolex. Nowadays, I.A. would stop by with a couple of questions.

There are some models which are pretty good bargains. Seiko's Black (and orange) Monsters being the best example. If they sold for $100 more than they do now, folks would still buy them up. Orient's line of watches also fall into that category. Many of their models are good bargains considering they feature Japanese quality and use in-house movements. (The latter is something you don't always get with watches costing over 10x as much from other brands.)

Those are the automatics. For quartz-movement, Citizen is highly underrated. Imagine a watch that is as accurate and tough as a standard quartz, but doesn't require a battery change for typically 10 - 20 years! Solar-powered rechargeable batteries done the right way. Citizen just does a poor job of getting the word out regarding their line of watches.

StarHalo thanks for the effort and I actually kind of like the blue version.....reminds me of a police theme. I am actually planning to send Nautica an e-mail asking if the orange with white face and black dials is still available. It seems like I read somewhere that Nautica was made by Seiko so I may also try with them.

Gentlemen thank you for the help and I have found my answer on a watch forum. It appears this version has been discontinued and this certain watch is not really as the video makes it appear.

The sweeping hand shown is not the seconds hand however is being used in the stopwatch mode. The "ticking" second hand is the small black dial and as such this watch still performs just like any normal quartz watch. From what I have learned there are a few quartz watches that do have a second hand that ticks several more times per second (so it appears to smoothly track) however it is not a true sweeping second hand.....and they are very expensive.

I will add that with my addiction here I may spend a few hundred dollars on any number of high end lights. If I were to develope a passion for watches....well one can easily spend thousands on several better quality watches. Maybe I should stick to lights huh?

One recommendation: head over to EBay, the Watches - Wristwatches section, set the search for Men's, and set the minimum price at $50. Be prepared to scroll for an hour or so..

Oh no . . . no. Just no.

Sorry S.H., but eBay is one of the worst places for watches. The crooks will fake anything remotely popular. Even watch models that are not so popular, and not even remotely expensive. And the scary part is . . . Some of those low-life b@st@rds make excellent fakes. Not in terms of quality, but in terms of fooling everyone except the truly diehard collectors. They even post their fakes on youtube. Proud of what they've "accomplished."

Amazon is fine. But eBay should be avoided the way vampires avoid the Sun.

For browsing, not buying. You should always try to buy locally from a brick-and-mortar dealer anyway, since they'll usually give you deals on service/maintenence.

My Tissot Titanium watch does the same. There is a whole bunch of features that the second hand does such as lap times etc..

You start with one button and depending upon which of the four buttons you press next it tells you different things. One will stop it so’s you can read the lap time and when you press again it will jump forwards for the time you were stopped. E.g. If you stop at 20 secs for 15 seconds and then restart it will jump to 35 seconds before continuing. Good for timing certain points on a lap. Another button will stop for you to read the lap time but starts counting off a new lap in memory. E.g. If you stop for 10 secs to read the lap time, on restart it will jump to 10 secs on the dial before continuing. Another is just start and stop for reading the cumulative time of different events. Can’t remember the fourth button, it may just be the reset but I’ve a feeling it also does something else. The watch also has a small digital display for hundredths of a sec. Timing minutes and hours are kept track of by two small dials in the top left and right of the watch display and normal seconds are at the bottom like you one in your video.

If you mean eBay, three words . . . $#!%load of fakes.

And it doesn't even have to be the high-end models. Anything remotely popular, regardless of price, gets faked and tossed on eBay or similar sites. Watch out especially for deals too good to be true from sellers based in eastern Europe. Anyone based in the Ukraine is a huge red flag. Single biggest place where the fakes come from. They'll even fake cheap $15 Swatches.

I've seen fake Omega Seamasters that could fool even Omega employees. The die-hard collectors can spot the incredibly 99% perfect fakes, but no one else could. That's how good some of these guys are. One particularly disgusting @$$ even proudly shows off his knock-offs on youtube! His claim is that they are homages, and that he sells them as such. Problem is, you take one look at an homage; and you know it's not the real thing. If I post pics of a real Rolex Submariner vs. Orient's homage, you'd know it's not a real Rolex because it'll say "Orient" right on the face. This particular low-life will use the actual trademarks of the real thing on his fakes. And it's no secret that his customers buy in bulk. For the price of one real Rolex Sub, they have two dozen fakes. Sell some of the fakes on eBay as the genuine thing, and your average buyer will not have a clue that the watch on his wrist isn't the real deal. Until a month or so later when it breaks down, he sends it in to Rolex to get repaired; and then gets a not so nice surprise when the Rolex customer service rep. contacts him about his precious Sub.

I mean, as bad as Ultrafire is in terms of quality when it comes to copying SureFire flashlights . . . At least they don't put "SureFire" on their lights and try to make them look like a genuine 6P on the outside. If you want a watch that is remotely expensive, something you'd enjoy wearing; avoid eBay the way vampires avoid the Sun. Otherwise, you're practically guaranteed to get burned.
