Ok, heat is the No.1 enemy. . so we try to stick with the duty cycle and heatsink. .
If i'm not wrong, the ir-filter blocks the infrared waves, and lets other waves pass through it. . .

my question is: is the "blocking" of infrared waves related to the heat build ups in the laser pointer??
If it does, will removing it reduce the building up of heat, thus make the laser colder

p.s. i know the potential danger of this, but don't worry, i have a triple coated goggle (532,808,1064 nm). .
don't you don't have to panic and start talking about blinding myself and others /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Not really.

The heat being produced from the stray 808nM ang 1064nM output are really nothing compared to the diode itself.

Heh heh heh, can't help my self........ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif
ok you've got goggles, but blinding others....... I take it everyone's going to to be huddleing round them..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

Spec is right, but to be more specific the IR filter converts almost all of the IR that hits it into heat. Very little IR makes it all the way to the filter, so removing it won't keep your laser noticably cooler.

The point is to get a nice clean 532nm beam so don't remove the IR filter. Some people have even gone as far as putting better (and more expensive) filters in place of the old one.

i did remove the IR filter on my leadlight !
there was NO diffrence before and after....
And i did not burn any black bags or el-tape /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
So removing the IR filter is only waste of time (and maybe wast of eyes)

I got only one question:
When getting the IR into the eyes, when does it hurt ??
Do i feel sick first, or do my eyes POP black the first second ?

Well, the worst thing about the IR filter is that by removing it, there'll be NO difference, especially when it comes to your eyes. They'll fry and fry and you'll never know it.
There's no indication that there's something wrong until you start getting "blank spots" where you can't see when you're looking straight ahead in your preferal vision. Nasty nasty stuff...

I heard some people damaged their eyes and didn't notice until they started playing video games the next day and noticed deformations on their screens; their screens were fine, their eyes weren't.

I have also heard that if you masturbate you go to hell AND go blind AND grow hair on your knuckles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif What a horrible thing this "masturbate" must be.

I believe a doctor would be more suited to make that distinction but I must agree that is a good way to tell if you have signs of eye damage from lasers. However saying things like that only serve to make the overly-paranoid more paranoid and afraid.

Seriously, If a "soccer mom" heard this she would immedeatly petition her senator to get portable lasers output clipped to <1mW (like in europe) and video games outlawed. Then the insurance companies would charge extra if you own a television, nintendo, and laser pointer, maybe even add a surcharge for a ATI video card and copy of half life 2... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ok, really not something I needed to hear... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Ok, just between you and me, if this really does happen for some magical reason, do you honestly think this would be that bad a thing to happen for our youth? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Now now, I didn't mean to scare anyone... even though those playing with high power lasers probably ought to be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif

Hmm
Did try to REplace my IR filter...
Did get dust inside the filter...
Then i tryed to remove the filter again (that now is broken 4-ever) but the first lense did also get off !!!

So now i got this big problem to try putting the lense back at the first position !!!

DONT botther taking of the IR lense !!! damn is NO GOOD /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
