I want a 6P host, not necessarily SF, best batteries, best drop-in, in terms of high lumens and throw, not really interested in flood.

123s? re-chargeable 123s? or 18650?

Drop-in should be a really powerful thrower.

Run-times will be short I guess, but that's ok.

I want a real small flashlight that packs a massive punch.

All parts should be readily avaialable.

I'm by no means an expert but if it's shear throw you want (and a 6p format is a must) i'd go with 2xrcr123 over 18650 because of the higher voltage since runtime is no issue. After that you'd probably be best of with some nice Dereelight drop-in with smooth reflector but if money isnt a real issue you could also try speaking to a custom builder.
 
I'm no expert either but here is my SF 6PL with a Malkoff Devices M60 Drop-in, Xeno SS Bezel and Moddoo SS Z59 "Thin Run" Clip. Accepts 2xCR123s(6V), 2xRCR123s(8.4V) and is bored out for 18650s (4.2V).

The easiest way is to buy a surefire host like a regular C2, 6P, E2E, incandescent versions. Then just buy the IMR Light assemblies from Lumen Factory website along with the 2 16340 IMR cells. Pop those items in your host, you will get a small pocket hot wire light. About 270ish OTF lumen for the E2E and 350ish OTF lumen for the P60 modules. The is about the best you can do with the smallest bodies and the easiest.

About using LED for a pocket rocket is an oxymoron to me. As either the cells or battery with drop out of regulation after a few minutes of use. The cells will sag as you draw high current too. The other problem associating with high power LED emitter in a small body it will cook itself up inside the pill. A lot of time either the pills are made out of brass or they don't have good thermal path for them.

There are reasons why modders like Milky, DaFABRICATA, Dark Zero, wquiles are very love here. As they will make a proper heat sink that mates to the body properly. Contact these modders if you want a host modded. I have seen excellent work, and their mods are extremely clean. :thumbsup:

There are stock models out there that some CPF members offers that suits your needs. For example Mac builds this 18650 Ti SST50 light, Download offers a highly modified 18650 again SST50 emitter light, andElektroLumens offers a direct driver 18650 MC-E emitter light. These 3 are the only models I know of that are offered on CPF here. If you dig around probably there are more so call "pocket rocket" out there. I have to tell you this though, the biggest limiting factor are the cells themselves. Don't expect too much out of a small package is all I can say.

Absolutely loving that one BIGLOU, perfect host, bezel, clip and drop-in. Although not massively powerful, I really think this may be the way to go, the most iconic of all CPF flashlights. Overready site keeps drawing me back.

A very informed reply Someuser. "350ish OTF lumen for the P60" sounds incredible, but I never did think about hotwire.....interesting. The speciality LEDs sound equally interesting.

I understand that these will be short runtime because of the cells, but I only need short, bright bursts while walking the dog in the dark for an hour. I get a thrill from a short, massive burst of light while out in the country where it is very dark, especially from a throwy flashlight. I also like small, powerful things. Hey, some people like porn and crack, I like illumination!

Had dinner the other night with an (elderly) lady from BC.

Someuser's generalisation about high powered LED's is somewhat misleading. Whilst there are many examples of high output LED's having problems with inadaquate heatsinking in P60 size drop in modules there are also an equal number of well built modules which do not. As for short run times I'm afraid I must disagree with the statement about short run times. A well designed P60 size module (even when using very high performance LED's) will not usually be inferior to a comparably performing incandescent module. In most instances LED's will invariably provide a longer runtime. However, for some tasks the CRI of an incandescent bulb may be preferable to a LED but that was not the point that Someuser was making?

As long as your 6P has glass lens and using pair of IMR 16340, it's possible to reach about 1000 bulb lumens.

Have a look at Nailbender's offer. He surely can build you a P60 dropin with some serious throw, the limit is always the little size of the head though and the more throw you try to get out of the dropin, the less Lumen it probably has.

A Dereelight DBS throws better than any P60 host because of the bigger reflector...
 
OK, so after some research I have found that Oveready have all you need to build the ultimate 6P pocket rocket.

Shopping list:

1 x OR bored 6P host

2 x IMR 16340 cells (20 minutes runtime, use with caution, 1100 lumens)

Or 1 x 18650 (1 hour runtime, safe, 800 lumens)

1 x Triple Cree XP-G LED Regulated 1100 lumen P60 Drop In

Cells: $14
P6 host with McClicky and steel bezel: $116
Drop-in: $148

Bottom Line: $278 for the ultimate, 20 minute, 1100 lumen 6P hand cannon.

The Triple has no throw, it produces just a bright wall of light.

Soon there will be more M2-50 heads for sure, they are making them "perfecter" currently. Those sport an SST50 driven direct drive at about 5A on an 18650, crank out about 1200 Lumen and have some throw... :whistle:

You can also keep a couple of those dollars in your pocket by using the solarforce L2p body instead of the surefire. Its about $25 shipped, holds 18650 with ease and has HAIII finish.

Ok, I'd definately recommend a Solarforce L2 or L2P host, Nailbender SST-90 SMO drop-in, and an AW 18650 battery. This will give you 750 or so lumens, and great runtime for under $100. You can get the drop-in with 1, 3 or 5 modes. I highly recommend 3 mode. Amaze your friends.
