I cant decide if i want an AA light. I'm on the fence. AA = battery easier to get but cr123 is easy to get online. CR123 = Smaller light over all and longer run time.

Current lights are in my signature. I have about 40 CR123A batteries and being that they are only 1.00 or so for Titaniums from battery junction I can keep them stocked up. I'm just wondering if I should get the AA becasue I can get those batteries anytime/anywhere.

Thoughts one way or the other.....

I want to order one in the next few hours before I change my mind again!

Get the EX10 and some AW Batteries. Its Up to you to decide between the Cree Q5 and the Golden Dragon Plus.

Unless I mistaken all the lights in your sig line use cr123s.

I decided to go with the EX10 because I'm trying to standardize all my lights to take cr123s.

You can get rechargeable R123As to use in the EX10.

Either way, you'll get a good light.

By the way, the AA version of the D10, not DX10.

I hear ya - personally, I find CR123 lights a little too fat to carry EDC - loved my AAA for EDC until I recently lost it - and I am very very intrigued to try out the Smart PD system. That is all leading me towards the D10...once the pocket clip comes out.

I have a large amount of CR123 batteries as well, but I need a little variety in life...AA's are everywhere!

D10 is thinner and the longer lenght fits my hand better.AA are everywhere, you can use any AA ,alk, nimh, lion.

The D10 can use more battery types. It runs better on a rechargable 14500 lithium cell than does the EX10 on a rechargable lithium cell RCR123. Despite the two battery types being listed as the same capacity, the 14500 cell tend to have just a bit more capacity in reality. I run a 14500 in the D10 and typically use the light at a medium to low output and it gets very good runtime. I got the D10 because to me the slimmer profile is more comfortable in the pocket.

The EX10 will run best on the primary CR123 cell. I think you will be happy with either.

I have an ex10, and a KD aaa light. While I understand the desire to have an edc that has readily available (ie 7-11) batteries, it seems that if we are paranoid enough about wanting easy access to batteries, we generally have lots of 16340s or cr123s.
I had an aaa light and it was good, but from what I have seen nothing beats a good cr123 light, and it is still small enough.
If I could only have one light it would be the ex-10.

I'd go AA, it's slimmer. $40 nearly buys you a good charger and some Eneloop cells.

Guilt free lumens are great and better for the environment. :poke:

I would get the D10. You have a wider variety of battery types. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the D10 have about the same runtime as the EX10 if you use lithuim AA's??

Mike

I have both here to compare.
Go the D10.

The extra length fits my hand better. The EX10 is too short to comfortably operate IMHO.
Able to use any AA format battery you can find.
14500's are ~750mAh; 16340's are ~550mAh.

I have both and couldn't make up my mind either on which one I liked better. Here's what I have deduced.

I like carrying the EX10 better.

It's a little smaller and less obtrusive in my pocket.
But..

I like using the D10 better.

It's feels better in the hand and is easier to manipulate to different positions.

So what happens is, I usually rotate carrying duties depending on expected use.

There really isn't a bad choice unless you consider 123 battery type a drawback.

I like the PD system so much, I had to have them both. I can see a D20 in my future.

I have both as well. I like using the D10 better due to overall length. The EX10 is a great fit in the pocket, but a little harder to operate with big hands. Get a D10, 14500, a slotted piston with a trit and it's a light to die for...

If you've got 40 CR 123s, that should keep you going with an ex10 for several generations! Besides, the EX 10 is a bit smaller than the D 10 which, for me at any rate, is a marked advantage. Needless to say, I have an EX 10!

EX10 is brighter if that matters to you. In general CR123 lights are better performers. It is not accident that Surefires, Ra lights, Novatacs, McGizmos, etc. are almost exclusively CR123 based. Anyway, you have me beat at 40 batteries so there is no reason not to have a light that puts them to use.
