Help my Mag85...9x14500 carrier or 3x18650 PVC pipe?

Hi everyone,

Please help my Mag85. I am sick of NiMH discharge rates . I am going the li-ion route now.:bow:



I understand that fivemega is selling his 3D 9x14500 battery carrier for $43 shipped. Then if I buy the 14500's from DX (~$25). Grandtotal=$68

Ok, I also understand that I can get a $2 PVC pipe & mod it to fit 3x18650(~$12). Grandtotal=$14



Thats alot in savings. Sorry I'm a cheap *******.



Can you guys give me the pros & cons of this type of setup? Which one will be brighter? Longer runtime? And I heard that the Mag85 will need a doubleclick to turn on with cheap 18650s. True?

Runtimes on 9x14500?
Runtimes on 3x18650?

I use eneloop NiMH cells in my Mag85. They hold voltage extremely well under the high current draw, don't need any forming charge, and have an exceedingly low rate of self discharge. I have yet to find a downside on these...
