I have a Metabo 4.8V cordless screwdriver. One of the battery packs has a bad cell, it will not take a full charge. It is a Ni Cd 1.25 Ah. There are 4,
4/5 sub C cells in the pack.
The charger is a "smart charger", per the owners manual.

My question is: Can I up-grade to Nimh cells, or should I stick with Ni Cd cells.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm sure someone will chime in here with info on the availability of the NiMH cells and their suitability with your charger.

I just thought I'd mention that while your NiCad battery can sit unused for about 3 months before being dead and needing a recharge, NiMH batteries can only sit for about 1 month before needing a full recharge.

These are only rule of thumb figures; if anyone has more precise numbers, feel free to contribute.

Hello Not So Bright,

Many people have upgraded to NiMh cells in power tools without problems.

Tom
