Hey everyone,

So I went out and got some battery acid (25% sulfuric acid) and black RIT liquid clothing dye today.

I hooked them up to my piece with a chunk of aluminum, following the directions on several sites. My charger is a 12V 1A power source. The part is a 2 inch long piece of 1" square aluminum tubing... pretty small.

I let it bubble and fizz for an hour, then took it, rinsed in distilled water, then put it in the dye for 15 minutes. The dye temperature was 95 degrees F.

I put it in the boiling water to seal it, and all the dye came off instantly. It's got some sort of hard coating, because it was a pain in the butt to try to sand it to retry it. The only thing is the dye wouldn't even partially absorb.

Any hints?

Also, not sure if this matters. I tried afterward with a piece of copper wire to hold the cathode and anode. Is my acid solution permanently contaminated now or will it be okay still? I plan on getting some thicker aluminum wire tomorrow, and a more powerful charger. Originally I had been using some 18Ga or so aluminum wire which broke easily.

Thanks
