Can someone help me with a small problem?

I am in the market for a new flashlight. I was set on purchasing the oracle 24w xenon light. I really need a very bright output, and thought this was a great deal. What I want is a light that will always work when I need it, not have dead batteries, etc.

Do you recommend this light? What other lights should I look at?
Again, thanks for the help
George

as per what the other guy said, go to the sticky for the general flashlights sub forum fill in the questionaire and post it.

dead batteries happen because (if i am not wrong) batteries are left in a light for too long and they have parasitic drain, i.e. cells being drained even when not used.

the choice of lights available are legion, you can have lights small enough to carry in your pocket, to lights so huge that they need a trailer. what you need or what you want, the batteries you want to use AA, CR123, D cells, C cells going all the way to rechargeable options and the rest will pay part

the level of light you want, the runtime that you want, and a whole host of other factors will also come into play.

trust me, go get the questionnaire, fill it out and post it then let the recommendations roll in.

The Surefire M6 can be set up for rechargeable use, and seems to fit all your requirements.

I have a number of high intensity lights. The one I use most often when I need a lot is the AELight, Xenide 25W HID. When I need more I use the Polarion PH40. When I need less there are just too many choices - the problems of a flashaholic...

I have purposefully thrown the AELight on paved surfaces to show its durability. It is not pretty and the light goes out if it hits hard. But you just hit the switch again and presto, you are back in service.

The M6 looks really nice. At that price, shouldn't it have a rechargeable battery? Does anyone have the oracle xenon 24w? I was told that this light had battery problems.

If you are going for an LED light, go Surefire M6. For brighter HID's, look at Polarion stuff.

The OP is new here, and I'm not sure I could in conscience recommend an M6 hotwire conversion for his first light - that is something for an enthusiast to do, once he has learned his way around hotwires and their associated issues.

For a first light, if it has to be really bright, a stock light with a SST-90 would surely fit the bill - and there are plenty of lower-output LED options that would seem super-bright to anyone who hasn't seen one.

I mean no offense to the OP, but when I first got a 180 lumen flashlight 3 years ago, I was extremely impressed with how bright it is.

If you have seen 200+ lumens and need more, then think about the Fenix TK40.

It is like 700 lumens and runs on 8 AA batteries, and I believe you can put rechargeable AAs in it. (sayno eneloops recommended)

Excellent starter light that you will not be able to top with most any other light.

An HID is a cool light but may not be practical for everything.

Thanks for the responses. The Olight looks impressive. How is the reliabilty of this company? At that price, it is comparable to similar surefire lights.

if by reliability of the company you mean durability of their products, then i would ask you to take a look at the Fenix TK40 torture test, i do not think this has been done with the olight yet.

Are there any more lights I should consider?
I am leaning towards the surefire based solely on the company.
Any more Olight buyers with a review to share?

$300-$500 puts you into the realm of some pretty nice custom lights.
