There are lots of HID pencil beam spotlights out there designed for off road motoring. Most of these use what looks like standard mounting. If some enterprising guy would come up with a universal hand grip that fit them all, then others only need to go get a HID pencil spot for SUVs and voila! instant HID hand held spotlights! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I hasten to add that not all of them perform the same. Hella has two: Rallye 1000 and Luminator HIDs. The former gives 960 kCd, the later some 1500 kCd (1.5 MCd). These sound very ordinary but one must not forget that the usual claims of "3.5 million CP" is wildly off the mark. A 3.5 MCd spotlight can measure out to no more than 60 to 100 kCd. The driving lights manufacturers are less liberal with their claims perhaps because the driver will not be too happy if his newly acquired lights does not meet expectation. I have no idea how much the 8.5" Luminator cost, but I do not think it is cheap. The 7" Rallye 1000 might be a little cheaper. But Jenn Feng (McCulloch in USA) makes the X930 which goes for $300+ that has a beam intensity of 490kCd according to their beam diagram. To put it in perspective, the X990 has a beam intensity of 250kCd according to the same beam diagram. About twice the beam intensity or 40% more range (reach?)than the X990 is not something to laugh at. By the same diagrams, the new X995 has 130 kCd. A Luminator with custom handle and a 10x SAFT VH-D9500 battery = 1.5 MCd for 2.5 hours .... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Aw, why do you have to wake me up?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thanks Larryk, I am saving up to get one directly from Australia. I have their rather cheaper ML 240 and really love it. Best halogen spotlight I own (and you should see the spotlights I have .... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
