Hey guys,
Does anyone have ANY idea what are the brightest UV LED (390nm-405nm) in production right now?
The reason I ask is because I picked up a butt load of 400nm UV LEDs from Ebay, but when viewed side by side next to another 400nm UV LED I got from a Photon knock off, the ones I got from Ebay were dim MCD wise. They are both 400nm-405nm but obviously they were cheap on ebay for a reason as they do not have enough purple/UV output as the 400nm photon knock off. I was going to make a UV flashlight out of these but now, I don't think I will. Craig, do you know of a company that sells a 390nm-405nm UV LED with the brightest MCD power output curently in production? ETG? Nichia? Any info here would be great. Thanks!

Joshua; Did you get the more powerful Cree 400nm LEDs? -(They are the ones with the SINGLE bond wire going into the center of the chip, seen by looking into the Led) [when it's turned off:D]

Added later:
The Cree LEDs are avail. on eBay.

If Cree is the only one that has a single bond wire than yes, all of my samples are Cree. But there is an odd note.
(1): The photon rip off (China made) has the brightest mcd light output at 400nm-405nm. This has a single wire bond in the center.(30º viewing beam)
(2): The 10 400nm-405nm UV LEDs I got from Ebay a week ago have a huge wirebond in the center. It covers more surface area of the chip than my China made photon rip off. Also these 10 UV LEDs have a narrow 10º-15º viewing beam. Which is odd because a narrow viewing angle should make it appear brighter head on.

To sum up: Me so confused.

I doubt that these are both the same chips. But both UV LEDs(10 from Ebay and the one super bright China made photon look-a-like) were both sold to me claiming to use Cree's UV chip. Although I am at a loss to understand why these ten I just got from Ebay fail to peform as good as that 1 30º viewing angle UV LED I have.

Right now I am in search of the brightest output for a UV LED. (Knowing full well that these UV LEDs only get so bright due to limits in UV chip making.) Im going to check out Norlux-Hex LEDs right after I post here. If anyone knows of any other makers of high mcd UV LEDs let me now. These LEDs I got from Ebay are just not hacking it. Thanks again for any links you might have!

Anyone have any ideas or links to some companys with a higher mcd rating to there UV LEDs?

I just looked at ETGs UV LED offering on Craigs website. At 12mw of UV output I am guessing that these are gonna be the brightest I can find. (If anyone has another suggestion, Im all ears.)
