I want to make a floating light for my pool. I know they make solar lights just for this purpose, but they are about $100 each. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Regular solar yard lights are ~$5 on sale. I already have one of those yard lights...guts removed, brighter LEDs added. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Does anybody have any suggestions for what I could install it into to make it float...with the light coming out of the bottom?

Well.... in the Ghetto-Joke section we have a Tupperware container with a colored 5w and a 7.2v Li-ion battery... Another one involves a clear Gatorade bottle (large mouth) with a 3AA resistored LS in the bottom, with a steel ring to keep it bottom-down. Looks funky in daylight, but the glare should keep people from figuring it out at night. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Somewhat more realistically, You can either give the Yard-Light a PFD (literally, get a round float-ring and have the light shining thru the hole of the ring, with the body supported on little legs, so it looks like a mutated bouy. (Did I spell that right? It's naptime.)

Buy a little plastic bouy and tie off a regular flashlight & set it a drift.. You might as well go all out eh? This way you also get to test the water resistance of your favorite lights (that you're willing to risk) too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
