Hot Stuff

I am very proud that I have built my first LED light, using parts from DealExtreme.
I used a Cree Q5 emitter (I think) as I wanted LOTS of light.

But why does the thing get so HOT?

Modding has come a LONG way since I was young and all we did was cram as many batteries as possible into the body of a Mag, or whatever else was handy.

Oh, I read the title and thought this thread was about me

The light getting hot is a good indication that you're effectively getting the heat away from the LED. The harder you run it the hotter it'll get, but as long as you're not feeding it way too hard it sounds like you just put it together right.

Please post some pics and let us see what you've built!

Maybe you should just measure the current it draws...
Do you use a driver? You could provide some pictures...
