How can one tell a Luxeon I from a Luxeon III?

If one is given a Luxeon I emitter and a Luxeon III emitter, how can one differentiate between the two? Assume that they are both used, that there are no markings or bin codes, and that they both have high domes.

If one has the wide power tabs (leads), then it's an L3 emitter that's been freed from a star board.

However, in pure emitter form, I don't think there is any physical difference whatsoever.
