How easy to open SF L1's circuit?

How easy to open SF L1\'s circuit?

I like the form factor of the L1. I would like to bore down the tube and make it an ordinary battery tube. But I would like to retain L1's functionality. My plan is to make a removable holder for the current circuit.

How easy is it to remove the circuit from the tube? Do it only involve loosening the plastic retainer being retained at the tube?

Somebody did this before, but I forgot who did.
