If you run an babboy installed in a minim*g for for extended periods of time (1 hour plus) how hot does the body of the light get? Can you feel much heat from it? I'm interested in buying a conversion and running it on NIMHs. John

I have measured the thermal resistance of a Minimag to ambient to be around 11C/W. To calculate the rise of the surface temperature over ambient, you need to know the total power being dissapated. For example, if your BB is a 400 mA model then power is approximately (.400A)x(3.6V)/0.80 = 1.8W where 3.6V is the LED Vf and 0.80 is the assumed converter efficiency. Temperature rise over ambient is then (1.8W)x(11C/W) = 20C. For gory details on thermal calculations is this thread:

It does get quite warm, but never hot enough where you couldn't hold it... When my friends and I were camping, I gave everything from a BB400 to a MM+ to lend out at night, and even though they were very warm after a few hours on straight, they weren't so hot that you couldn't hold them...
