I'm noticing a remarkable number of posts about having to use the bathroom at night, and so a really low output level is desired for navigating.

My question is, how often do you guys get up at night? Getting up often is not normal and may be indicative of various health issues. Or, are you guys just looking for an excuse to use your lights?

LOL. Older you get the more normal it is. Maybe this should go in the CAFE? Yes, low light is good particularly if your light is worn around the neck, like mine.

Haha I get up to check weird noises I hear or if my dogs bark and maybe once or twice to use the facility's. My Novatac's .3lm mode gets used WAY more than I ever expected it to! Almost more than 120lm! But yes this is better suited for The Cafe:thumbsup:

I get up to pee an average of 3 times each night. I don't need a flashlight to find my way. With all that practice, I know exactly how to get there, how many steps are required, and how to get back to bed.

My prostate may be getting old, but my brain still works.

Exactly, It's written in red right above the forum about this. Lol. :ohgeez:

I debated putting it in the cafe, but I guess it still has to do with flashlight usage patterns; but by all means, move it if you need to.

My 90 pound hellhound sleeps in the living room, and when he barks, it's almost always because he heard a car door slam or our outer gate squeak from being opened. Late at night, I feel it's appropiate to investigate such things as a few years back we had a later arrested burglar outside my front door around 3 a.m. I've gotten in the habit of using a Kroma Mil-spec set to the very dim yellow/green LED to creep around discretely and avoid furniture.

Then one night while still groggy I picked up a G3L, wondered why the head would not turn to the second position, then remembered in a flash of 80 lumen white light my Kroma was in the drawer. Unless you get up and investigate each and every "doggie alarm", eventually a worst case might happen where you find your car, etc. missing in the morning. The night I confronted the burglar, he was standing quietly outside my front door while the dog was going crazy barking. Part of his MO was to let the household dog get out, then take his time prowling around OCCUPIED dwellings.

The only time I use a flashlight once I am in bed is to look outside for the source of a loud noise, or use my X5 just before sleep to charge up the lume on my watch, which then lasts all night should I happen to wake up and want to know the time. I never, unless I have partyed heavily (not in MANY years) have to use the bathroom.

If I drink water in the 2 hours before going to bed I'll usually get up once. Otherwise I zonk out for 9-11 hours (big fan being well-rested:party:)

I use my uber-low more for getting into bed. A couple nights a week I go to bed after my wife (very different schedules) and .01 lumens won't wake her up.

1 max, usually none.

Unless there's a noise..................:xyxgun:

+1

We just use this as another excuse to get a light, one with a loooow low.

Kinda like I need a light for lighting fires and illuminating the roofs of skyscrapers, and I need an EDC light, and a backup EDC light, and an EDC light with more throw to backup my roof illuminator, and I need a keychain light, and I need a nicer keychain light for special occasions, and I need a light I can put on a neckchain, and I need some cheapies to loan out in power outages, and I need a floody light for camping and hiking purposes, and I need a headlamp, and a backup headlamp, and some nicer long runtime lights for myself during power outages, and I need some custom lights, and I need a few lights to mod myself, and and and and and and....

With the assortment of LED night lights I have around the house I don't hardly need a flashlight when I get up (once or twice). But I grab one anyway. Lately it's the Photon Freedom with an orange LED.

Once I'm asleep I rarely need to get up to use the bathroom or a drink, maybe a couple times a month. However, between the time I sit down in bed to wind down on my laptop or with book and the time I actually commit myself to sleep, I can be up and down countless times. I'd rather just walk around with a flashlight than turn on bigger lighting fixtures, that way low light adapted eyes aren't continually strained by dark, light, dark, light...

I use my light at night right BEFORE going to bed. Such as brushing teeth, checking if doors locked and etc. In the event I wake up in the middle of the night to use potty I wont use a flashlight as I pretty much can get to the bathroom and back to the bed with my eyes closed. Only times I use a light at 3:00 in the morning is strange noise or dog does not stop barking. Also I leave my outside lights on at night and a little bit of light comes in through the kitchen window so thats my navigation light.

On average, twice. It all depends on how much pop, milk, water, or whatever I have between dinner and bedtime. If I don't have anything to drink, (which is really rare) I won't have to get up at all during the night, or maybe just once. If I had a lot to drink, I might have to get up three times. Also, I sleep in on weekends, so that usually ends up adding one more trip to the bathroom than usual.

In any case, the light I use on these midnight trips to the bathroom is my Pak-Lite Super (with a glow top) on low.

If I need to be up early, I will deliberately drink a lot of water before bed. Otherwise, I will use a low light to get from the bathroom to bed after brushing. I am still working on making my flashlights mind-activated so that I can simply turn them on with my thoughts...

When you have two tanks of reptiles in your room with 65w red heatlamps on all night yet you STILL grab a light to escort you to the bathroom does that qualify you as a true flashaholic?Where can I attend a flashers annonamous meeting (and yes I realize it's late but get your damn minds out of the gutter!)

I get up twice a night because I snore like a bear, have sleep apnea and wake myself up .. lol.

I always use the bathroom since I'm up anyway and kind of sweep the house with my flashlight these days.

Important to note that pre-flashlight days, I just got up and used the restroom. The flashlight has kind of this weird magical power that turned me into a 3 a.m. roving patrol. Don't know why...lol.

I'll shine my light in the backyard at 3 a.m. just to do it.
