Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and I just recently purchased a Surefire 6P off of ebay. The light is brand new supposedly but no packaging. The seller claims that it is the new 80 Lumen model. How do I verify that it is. Does the bulb read anything about the output? Also will the bulb tell me if its a surefire bulb or otherwise? Thanks for the help.

Mike

The lamp will have Surefire written around it. If it is marked P60L it is the 80 lumen version.

The incandescent version is, well, incandescent, and is labelled P60.

This strikes me really weird. If it's a brand new SF it should be in a tamper proof clam shell type packaging. If it's not in the packaging then its not new. Inside the LA, if there's a glass envelope, its the incan version which has 65 Lumens. If there's an LED emitter inside the LA then its 80 Lumens. I would get in touch with the seller and see if he'll do you a refund, you paid for a new SF, which you did not get.

If it is a 6P than it should be 65 lumens. If the seller said it is a 6PL/LED than it should have the 60L drop in installed in it and be LED. I have gotten 6P's off eBay said to be new no package. The light was as for all intensive purposes new. I no some police department issue 6P's to there officers. Maybe the seller is getting them in quantity this way? Let us no what you get..... Also

I've bought a 6P LED off ebay that's new without package, but for practical purposes it appears new including the two SF batteries.

The same seller also have a lot of 6P, G2, sog knives and multitools this way. Duno what's the deal with them but they were a good deal so I can't complain.

Look into the light when off, if you see a LED(if you see a small yellow square) then it is a 6PL which is rated at 80 lumen. If you see a bulb, then it's a 6P rated at 65 lumen.

First off, I apologize for not saying it is an LED 6P. Second, thanks everyone for all of the interest and help. This is the first forum I have been on that has been this helpful. I go on many forums for all my hobbies. I'm blown away. Thanks everyone for all the help. I should receive the light in a day or two and I'll let you know what I found out.

By the way I paid $51 including shipping.

Thanks

Mike

You know what, for $51 shipped.,if the light works you can't go wrong.

Take care

That was a great price - especially if it is new. I bought a new 6P (incand.) last Feb for $37 + s/h - $42, I think. I added a P60L locally for $29 OTD - but your deal is better.

Another, actually experimental method of determining whether or not it is a 6P or 6PL, is simple. Mark the time - turn it on and lay it on a non-flammable surface. Come back in an hour - if it's warm and stil bright, it's a 6PL. If it's HOT - and dim or out - it's a 6P - and you need fresh CR123s!

Of course, on both of the flat sides within the middle barrel knurling of the 6P, it states "SUREFIRE 6P", while the 6P LED will state "6P LED" on one side and "SUREFIRE" on the other side.

Congratulations and welcome to the Surefire family!

Now lock your wallet and throw away the key.

What If I told you that you can replace that stock LED assembly with one that will put out over 200 lumens?

Now what if I told you that you could replace that twisty tail cap with one that "clicks" the light on and off?

Now what if I told you that with an tube extender and all the above, you can create a light that will use rechargable li-ion batteries?

:) You can really upgrade the 6P into a light throwing, retina burning environmentally friendly light. However you will pay for it. Enjoy what you have now, and remember there are many options available to turn that light into a "one-of-a-kind".

Well, once again thanks for everyones replies! I received the light and it says 6PL on the bulb. I am very very very pleased with this light. I even ordered 2 G2 incandecents from a website that was recommended on this forum for $25 each. I was hoping to upgrade them to LED at some point.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out.

And if I ever want to upgrade the living S**T out of this light I know where to come.

Thanks again everybody!!
