How's The Weather There ?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I like rain, but I tend to prefer the severe/heavy variety. That's the beauty of Florida. Sunny mornings, clouds start to build after lunchtime, 4pm all hell breaks loose, by 8pm it's all cleared and you can go for a relatively cool, peaceful sunset walk on the beach.

I'm solar powered, so overcast all of the time would get to me. Just being out in Iowa for fall / winter got to me. Then again, it was Iowa, which is depressing enough as it is.

I wish it rained every morning, for one hour 7am - 8am.
That way the darn Sun wouldn't be in my eyes as I'm driving home from work every morning.

Edit: I own multiple pairs of polarized sunglasses, and very happy that I do!

The other day, in my area, for one night it was still a touch over 90ºF at midnight. A/C was chugging along. Not my favorite sort of weather.

Temps I find much more amenable -- overnight in the 40s to low-50s, with days in the 60s to mid-70s.

Ah, well. It's an annual thing. Gotta love summer.

I seem to recall this past December and January whining about near-zeroºF temps. If it ain't one thing, it's another.

Thing is, with Winter, you can always toss on more clothing.
There's a limit as to how much you can take off, even in your own home.
Yeah, you have to deal with snow.... Get a vehicle with at least All-Wheel Drive, put on Winter tires. They're technically not absolutely needed. But heated seats, steering wheel, and mirrors are going to be very much appreciated. In 2 1/2 years, my car turns 20 years old. Let's just say, I'm going to be upgrading from the rather basic features I've lived with for nearly 20 years. And, oh yeah, remote engine start with the A/C or heater already switched on, about 10 minutes before the end of my shift. Remote key-less entry is great for literally never accidentally locking yourself out of your car. But it's not enough.

Funny how few folks ever figured out that they should keep their car-key on a separate keychain from their house keys. Then just put that 2nd car-key on their house-keys split-ring. You get locked out of your car, you don't get locked out of your house too. Plus, you've got that spare key on your person. Base brand new model Toyota MSRP is $25K. They give you almost nothing extra on it. No key-fob! Just two physical keys. Heck, not even a trunk-release on the boot-lid.

Humidity was disgustingly thick this morning as we headed out for church. 82F temp, 81F dewpoint. Got up to 90F, but with a dewpoint like that it wouldn't take long before the thunderstorms appeared. And they came. Tons of lightning, including many close strikes. Power got knocked out several times. These little surge protectors work wonders for this, keeping things disconnected until power has been stable for 3-5 minutes. Dumped 1.65" where we were at, with temperatures dropping to a pleasant 75F by 4pm.

Now back at our other home and there's pleasant thunderstorm overhead, with the sound of the rain on the patio's pan roof. I need to get a recorder out here one day for this. Same with getting the sound of the ocean at my other place.

It's cooler and less humid here today also. What a relief compared to the past several days.
Same here. It looks like the rain took out most of the humidity. Nice and cool out now-about 65°F. First time in a week I could turn the AC off.

Of course this being summer in NYC it won't last long. I'll enjoy it while it does.

Couple days ago we has a minor earthquake 12 mikes offshore in Lake Michigan.
gotta say, didn't see that one coming..... we are not on a fault zone, not even close.

This is almost even more rare; we are supposed to be Sunny, not partly Sunny, for like the next 7 days or more.
that's just really rare for Summer here

maybe the two are linked?___________ kidding 🍻
