First check out,

great folks and some nice explanations.

also try a search for BEAM and solar. There are lots of neat circuits floating around for solar engines, and pummer led lights and such.

This is an instructable on a jar of fireflys, similar, but not solar powered.

and finally a way to mod an existing cheap O solar light into a jar light

PS: My first post on candle power, since reading off and on for over 4 years. You brought me out of the closet:huh:

powrslave, your link is the cheapest I've seen it. Doing it yourself will be more expensive based on my own experience.

I'm currently doing my own version and it cost $8 for the my parts. 1 garden solar lamp and 1 glass jar. I'm still looking to frost the glass and also look for a brighter led replacement. It's currently using a 5mm led.

Been pretty simple so far. Took solar lamp apart and stuffed it into jar. I measured and made sure the jar opening was big enough. I also replaced the battery with a higher capacity battery. It can last for a couple of days without recharging.
