The flashlight will be atached to a airgun for night hunting at 50 meters. I would like to use the flashlight for others purposes like camping when not atached.

0) What Region/Country/State will the light be purchased in?

__X__I will be mail-ordering or buying online, so this doesn't matter.
____I am in North America. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in South America. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in Europe. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in the Middle East. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in Africa. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in Asia, Japan or Micronesia. More precisely I am in _______________.
____I am in Australia. More precisely I am in _______________.

1) Price Range: An easy question, but you may change your mind after answering the rest! :-)

____I only want to pay $1-10.
_X___I can spend $15-24. (usd 24 id the maximum because of the customs delay)
____I could spend $40-60.
____I am willing to spend $80-$120.
____I have no limit!

2) Format:

_X___I want a flashlight.
____I want a headlamp.
____I want a lantern.
____I want a portable spotlight.

3) Length:

_X___I don’t care.
____1-2 inches. (Keychain sized)
____2-4 inches. (Pocket carry)
____4-9 inches. (Holster carry)

4) Width:

_X___I don’t care.
____I prefer a long narrow light.
____I prefer a short wide light.

5) What batteries do you want to use? Alkaline batteries are easier to find and less expensive but don't pack as much stored energy and are don't work well in cold temperatures. Lithium batteries have long shelf life (10+ years, great for stored emergency lights) and are not as affected by cold but must be kept dry and are more expensive. Rechargeable start expensive, but if used frequently pay off quickly.

__X__I want common Alkaline batteries. (AA, AAA, C, D)
____I want lithium batteries. (coin cells, CR123, AAA, AA...)
____I want a rechargeable system. (an investment, but best for everyday use)

6) How much light do you want? Sometimes you can have too much light (trying to read up close up with a 100 lumen light is impossible).

____I want to read a map, or find a light switch, in a dark room. (5-10 lumens)
____I want to walk around a generally paved area. (15-20 lumens)
____I want to walk unpaved trails. (40 lumens)
_X___I want to do Caving or Search & Rescue operations. (60+ lumens)
_X___I want to light an entire campground or dazzle an intruder. (100+ lumens)

7) Throw vs Flood: Which do you prefer, lights that flood an area with a wide beam, or lights that "throw" with a tightly focused beam? Place an “X” on the line below.

Throw (distance)-50 meters minimun---------------------|----------------------Flood/close-up

8) Runtime: Not over-inflated manufacturer runtime claims (like some LED lights). but usable brightness measured from first activation to 50% with new batteries.

____20 min. (I want the brightest light for brief periods)
_X___60-240 min. (1-2 hours) 50 minutes is ok
____240-360 min. (4-6 hours)
____360+ min. (More than 6 hours)

9) Durability: Generally the old phrase “you get what you pay for” is very accurate for flashlights.

____Not Important (A “night-stand” light.)
X____Slightly Important (Walks around the neighborhood.)
____Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box.)
____Critical (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, Self-defense, Survival.)

8) Switch Type:

____I don't care.
____I want a sliding switch. (Stays on until slid back.)
_X___I want a "clickie” switch. (Stays on until pressed again.)
____I want a momentary switch. (Only stays on while held down.)

9) Switch Location:

____I don't care.
____I want a push or sliding switch on the body near the head.
_X___I want a push switch on the back end of the body.
____I want a rotating head switch.
____I want a rotating end-cap switch.
____I want a remote control.

10) Operational Modes: Check all that apply.

_X___A simple on-off is fine for me.
_X___I want 2 light levels. (Brighter/short runtime and Dimmer/long runtime.)
____I want multiple light levels. (some lights have 5-16 light levels.)
____I want a strobe mode. (blinks to show location.)
____I want a tactical strobe. (Flashes rapidly to disorient an opponent.)

11) Is it important whether the body is metal or plastic/composite?

____I don't care.
_X___I want a metal-bodied light.
____I want a plastic/composite light.

12) Special Needs: Is there anything else you want or need that hasn't been mentioned? Circle any below or write in your own comment(s).

____Red (night vision preserving) filter
____Other filter colors (Amber, Green, Blue, _________)
____Waterproof – how deep: _____________
____Non-reflective/dark finish (stealthy/hard to find)
____Polished silver or brightly colored finish (for easy locating)
____Corrosion resistant or hard-anodized finish
____“Hybrid” light (bright incandescent combined with long running LEDs)
____Built-in second (or spare) lamp or filament
____Belt/Jacket clip
____Holster
____Wrist/Neck Lanyard
____Kobuton/self defense features
____Non-sparking Intrinsically Safe (IS) for use in explosive environments

airgun hm? that's a rather low budget.. do you already have mounts?

I'm thinking a solarforce light of some sort would do fine with your application at that budget.

well for your price range and specifications i would say the rayovac sportsman extreme 4W, its a 3C configurations, the batteries last forever, and its about 150 lumens, its a similar style to a regular maglite, but streamlined a little, and they sell for less than $30. the switch isn't on the tailcap, and its only one mode, but mine did 3 years worth of hunting before needing new batteries....oops now that i have typed this i see that you were weapon mounting it...i should read closer..this light is too big to weapon mount, solarforce L2 is better

Solarforce seems to be the one! and at $15,10 I can include a couple of cells and a nanocharger and still in budget!

Is there any pressure switch compatible with this light?

runtime?

Thank you!

where did you see a solarforce for $15? i suspect that $15 may just be for the host without a LED drop in, better check to make sure.

the pressure switch alone costs $17.99

You might want to head over to Shiningbeam and check out the range of budget lights there.

thats the L2m which means it only takes ONE rechargeable RCR123 battery, thats a very low runtime, also the credibility of the sight is WAY off since they claim to be delivery 800ma to the LED and getting 230 lumens from an R2 which according to the data sheet, 800ma is considerably less than 200 lumens. Also, pulling 800ma from a single RCR123 is really going to burn through it fast, i would recommend against getting that one, you can usually find a good one for $30-40 with the battery and the charger (check ebay and flashlightexpress they are good vendors) we have one running around the forums too that often offers scratch and dent sales, i would be wary about dealextreme, and especially this product.

ouch... already ordered... I was a little bit concern about 800mha from a 16340... I ordered 1 ultrafire 1000mah 1640.

What do you think about it? is it safe?

how many lumens do I get from that led at 800mah?

Thank you!

DX also has a glass optic which will fit a Solarforce and increase it's throw dramatically. SKU 05297. I'd order one or two of these also they are fun to play with. Installed dome up is best but installed dome down it still focuses pretty good and the dome then doesn't protrude from the bezel.

i only order my Solarforce items from Jake25 at this site, service is great and shipping is fasssst. I am not too thrilled with DX cos they always claim "ships in 2-3 days", i ordered some unprotected soshine 16340s (as these are the only ones that fit in my EX10, note, i have NOT tried AW's cells yet) and that was in late december 2009, first they said, out of stock, expected stock 4th January 2010, then now it says expected stock arrival 15th January 2010.

Ordered a drop in, from out of stock it became permanently not available and they had to refund me, this was after i patiently waited 6 months.

But anyway, the link you provided was to a solarforce L2M, single cell 16340. Runtimes suck with single cell 16340s at high output, my Jet II Pro IBS gets 20 minutes on MAX but luckily its programmable so max output is reserved for occasional use while the lower modes are used more often.

I see you ordered a cell to go with the light, did you also get a charger and a multimeter? The multimeter is a crucial piece of equipment to test the voltage of your cells. I hope you also got spare cells, wouldnt want you to be left in the dark.

On that note, i'd recommend that you get a backup light, a fenix E01 running off 1xAAA cell would be enough, $15 (before discount using "CPF8" code) at 4sevens and free shipping. Its tiny, light, tough, hang it on a neck lanyard tucked into your shirt and you will always have a light with you when you go hunting. The E01 will last 10 hours before going into moonlight mode for another 11 hours. I'm still on my first AAA cell for more than a year now.

I ordered the nano charger, not spare cell yet... if my order is more than $25 i have to pay 50% in tax and travell 40 miles to customs agancy to pick up my package.... (I live in Argentina)

I will run and post a runtime test as soon as I get it.

I have 2 very good multimeters.

The flashlight is for a friend, not for me anyway i cannot stop buying flashlights!!!!!

In the last 2 month I ordered
TA21 +18650 + charger. My main flashlight, GREAT, AMAZING. the ring with the 9999 modes is very usefull.

Akoray K-106 (Gifted to another brother)
Powerex MH C-9000 Amazing!!!

Terralux TLE-5EX + IQ tail cap + Terralux tail cap for my minimag
Akoray 3 modes programable
2 Romisen RC-G2 (one for me, one to give as a gift)
Romisen RC-B3 (for my car key chain)
Romisen RC-H3
Solarforce L2

Regarding 4sevens I do not think I will buy again from them. I ordered a TA21 in Octover and it never arrived... They said "since you did not pay shipping upgrade there is nothing we can do. If the package was lost in tha mail is your problem" I am very disapointed since they should have warned me about this during the purchase process. Then I bought it again from ebay, but I am still disputing the charge with the credit card company.

Now... I cannot understand the people who has no flashlight at all.

;-)

hmm you can always order in parts...$25 drop-in, $20 body, $10 tail cap, etc etc cumbersome but not as bad as 50% tax, and i wouldn't worry about the L2m, you can prolly get a lower output dropin for longer runtime and use it as your backup light when you get a bigger one (i say when because with flashaholism its just a matter of time) and your 16340 shouldn't have any trouble running that for a little while, be sure its protected though, you don't wanna run the battery down too far or over charge it, those are really the only dangerous times in a single cell application.

Two things I'd like to make clear.

1) There are warnings when you check out about purchasing without insurance when checking out. There's even a button that you can click "add insurance" presented to you when checking out.

2) When we recently spoke to you, you never mentioned purchase another TA21. You only said that you're still waiting for the TA21. Why didn't you tell us that you already have a TA21 from someone else? Hmm....
