I bought a Jetbeam M1X crennulated tailcap... how do I get the old one off?

I tried a pair of channelocks but couldnt get it off. Is there a tool or trick that I don't know about?

I have had great success with the rubber jar opening thingy and the back of a mouse pad. I have also heard of people using a plastic writing pen and the back of a mouse pad (because the crenulated tail cap bezel).
