I got a Mac mini-mini HID about two weeks back and I upgraded the ballast from the 10W version Mac used to the new Solarc NGX 14W regulated version. I followed the wiring properly and configured the red wire for the positive on the battery pack and then hard wired (the same way Mac had the black wired) both the yellow and black to ground.
Light working fine for a while and then all of a sudden the rubber tailcap pops off and I look at the metal reflector and the whole reflector surface has yellowed and basically burnt off to the underneath metal.
Since that time, in no predictable manner, I have gone through about 4-6 other reflectors in the same manner - this problem is starting to get $$$.
I can't find any shorts on the positive run and I assume the reflector is part of the negative side of the surface. I've taken tailcap current readings and no shorts have been found.
I'm kinda new to the HID ballasts, so I am wondering if someone with more experience in HID lights may have some suggestions.
Thanks!
