Yup. No posts on CPF political topics unless I can see some point of agreement with the forum administrators. There might be things where I don't agree...but I won't be posting on those items here.

Ikendu, it wouldn't be "about this" if you just agreed with us. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Seriously though, while its a truism that the majority of us want whats best for people, its also a truism that this many individual minds are going to run the spectrum as to exactly WHICH ideas are actually the best for people. Consequently ideas that depart from what those we think are best are probably, in our respective views, bad for people, including us. So of course people fight like its important, it is. Now mix in the ideological toxin that ne'er do wells present in any group produce for no good cause and you get what is sometimes quite an ugly picture.

What you're pining for is not only impossible in a free and diverse society, but prospect of a society where everybody has the same idea is rather spooky.

Well...I might agree with that if what I was "pining for" (what a quaint way to put that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ), was everyone agreeing on the best idea. I've only said that it should be a discussion of what is best and not a battle. We have the wonderful system of a republic were we have representatives to vote on important issues...rather than revolutions in the street. Our discussion of ideas doesn't have to be about personal attacks and emotional appeals. In the end not everyone will agree but that disagreement can be settled in a civil matter when the bills and resolutions come up for a vote.

The verbal battling (the offense) that I see people doing is less about which idea is the best and more about who will wield power (and all the personal benefits of wielding that power). It isn't the ideas that matter so much but the emotional control of the electorate that politicians care so much about. Of course, I don't mean the politicians from your party (whichever one that might be) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Sorry...I'm probably beginning to drift into one of those areas that I don't want to post about.

David I don't think it's the left bending over here. I live in California, the politicians are preparing to bend us over. It dosen't seem to matter who is in power, my taxes keep going up.

What Gray Davis and his bunch are doing now is raising fees, licenses, and taxes that are in place and don't need a vote. His plan to triple car license fees will mean our 6 year old pickup truck will cost $1000.00 per year!!! I think there will be alot of trucks for sale here next year.Davis spent $78,000,000 million campaigning last election. Remember he's for the little guy-the worker. Yeah, right. But, even if he is recalled I'll bet you my taxes will still go up.

He said he's undecided, I am betting he does and will win. Here's why: Arnold is a very liberal Republican so it will give him some appeal to the left and the right just wants Gray to hit the road. He has the best name recognition and to some extent an election is a popularity contest especially to those that don't know the issues, which is probably more than half their population.

I bet Arnold won't run and another liberal Republican is the last thing CA needs.
Just my $0.02.

I feel sorry for whoever wins; Especially if it is a California republican or a REAL conservative.

Davis screwed things up so badly that it will take decades of good fiscal policy or HUGE tax increases (that Kalifornia can't afford anyway, since so many of the productive people and businesses are fleeing the state already) to fix it: NO MATTER WHAT, it is going to be a very painful next few years for the residents of that state, and whoever it is in the Governors chair during that time is going to be blamed for it, NOT Red Davis.

This is slight off topic but I started thinking about the Reagan years and I'm trying to recall the details of the Reagan tax cut. I seem to remember that there was a direct cut in Federal tax so every working American took home more in their weekly paycheck. It was a tax cut that meant something tangible to many people and was immediately helpful to millions of Americans who were able to put that money to good use.

I believe that's the sort of tax cut that has real meaning to most people, and I wish the currant administration's tax cuts were more along those lines, though that may not resonate with currant trickle-down monetary policy, or rather, philosophy.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering this accurately. Anyone have a similar impression?

Ah-nuld won't enter the race because too many other politicians, who might be just as fiscally conservative, are going to enter the beauty contest.

Although Ah-nuld is offically undecided, once the Huffingtons express serious interest and Jack Kemp gets interested, he'll bow out. Riordan says he'll consider if Ah-nuld doesn't run but then Davis will simply re-run his earlier campaign against him and hope for a close one.

Anyone that will veto the bloated spending bills, slash the very lavish public employees retirement plans, tell people that the pain (that will be felt by all) will be replaced with growth, drops the car tax and looks after business will win the vote.

Our problems in CA are such that Sacratomato must rethink how it does things. The people who pay the taxes are not an unlimited well of eternal money. We're sick and tired of seeing hard earned money spent on dubious things.

If the politicos, in both parties, don't wake up and see the larger problem, there will be another Boston Tea Party.

I also think that people are tired of hearing that this election is going to cost $30M when we're spending almost $80M a day right now to maintain the awful status quo. The Gov is sooooo wrong when he says that people don't want a change. They do. Really bad.
