I was afraid to mod my PD because I tend to blow things up ..
Specially my favorite McGizmo , Ti PD.
But after being mentored by Ernest in the fine arts of Light Engine building, I got brave..

Here is the link to Kevin's PD Kit..

This kit is awesome...everything fitted where it should and since I was also changing the LED to Seoul , he also provided a way to raise the emitter .

Sorry I didnt take any pictures of the actual mod, I wanted to concentrate on the mod and didnt want to get too distracted. But I do have beamshots..

This is the original ti pd on high

This is the PD with the piglet board and seoul on low...

Now this is the PD with the piglet board and seoul on high....
Kevin set the piglet on 50ma on low and 750ma on high....

Nice job! Multi-mode PD with Seoul, I really like that. I haven't ever had a PD (although I wish I did), and can't say I understand exactly how it works with the kilroy and all, but this is a nice resulting mod.

So, do you twist it to a point to engage the normal high mode on piston press, then just use the piston to select the modes in a momentary fashion?

I seem to remember that the PD works on low with a slight press to the piston, and high is a harder press, but I thought you could twist it to make it engage high with a slight press. I am assuming thats what you are doing here.

Regardless, it looks like a great result. Any PD with any output is a nice light, but I do like the piglet with Seoul.

Thank You.....

The PD works by either twisting or the piston drive...
When its off, you can use the twisty to go through the modes of the piglet.
Also you can use the piston drive to do the same, its not a partial press to use low mode and press harder for high..

So you dont have to twist first to activate the light to use the piston...

Yes I agree...any pd regardless of output is still a great light...

Looks cool, cqbdude! I recieved one of these piglets in the mail today but it must have had a rough ride from Canada. All the little pieces floating around in the package with the driver make me think it is not going to work. :ohgeez: The tallest piece on the board called the inductor??? Maybe I can send it back to Kevin to see if it is fixable. :grin2:

Thanks Ken...

Sorry to hear the piglet got messed up..Im surprise , Kevin packed mine up really well and no movement...I guess you guys in the Great State of Texas are just rough..LOL

Im sure Kevin can fix that board for ya...

Hope you get the mod done, its awesome..

Eeeks...can you take some pictures of what you have left?

Great job cqbdude. It must be fun, although a little scary, to take a favorite light and update it to an even better light. Good beam shots too! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Damn, Raul! No wonder I haven't heard from you in a while. You've been couped up with a few mad scientist projects. :D Way to go, man!

Thanks Derek....It was really scary...but the new generation PD's are much easier to change LED's than the older ones..lucky for me..
But Im really happy with the results...well worth the effort...

Salamat Greg....Been busy trying not to blow things up,like normal .
Im usually not having much luck when modding these lights...
Right now, Im waiting for a driver board for the Fenix L1P that I manage to blow up, while just trying to change the Lux3 to Seoul...Oh well..

All off that sounds famaliar to me. A while back I bought a whole bunch of Fenix L1p`s, LED`s, drivers of all sorts, reflectors and had some fun trying to blow things up.  I still can`t solder worth a hoot and I still have basically no idea what I am doing but I am willing to dive into about any light now. McGizmo`s lights don`t really need any modifying but it is so much fun that I can`t help myself. Keep at it and before you know it you will be soldering an 0603 sense resistor (looks like a speck of pepper) to a driver to change the current drive level. ;)

Kevin, I will Email you a close up picture of the Flupic to check it out.:)

Thanks,
Ken

Thank You Ken...
Ive seen some of your mods and they look pretty good...Did you get your lathe yet?
Im still got a long ways to go with those really tiny resistors on to a driver board..
Ill stick with Light Engines and LED changes for now..:grin2:
