I'm sure this has been asked here many times, but I don't quite have access to the search feature. Being completely new to modding flashlights it's kind of difficult to keep up with some of the language thats being used in the posts. I'm looking for something that will give me a nice red beam at 200+ yrds, 400+ lumens . I've seen some mention and aspherical lens that they have placed in their lights, where are you guys getting these from and how much of a difference does it make? If I were to get a "host" light, which would be best to start off with and which red led would I replace it with? Thanks in advance for everyones help!!

Google these PT54, Mouser, SST90, Direct drive, 9A drivers, Phatlight & Phlatlight, Luminus, DIY are good search topics to start.

I dont think you get a red LED exactly, but put a red film over the output. The only actual RED led that I can think of is part of the MC-E emitter (the multicolored variety).

Maybe Joe needs to do some googling

I'm confused by the use of the word "a"... As in singular...

I'm just sayin....

What you are going to need is either a bored out surefire 6P or C2, or any P60 hosts (cheaper) that can hold an 18650 battery, you will need to purchase an 18650 battery and charger, and then you should order a nailbender SST-90 RED drop-in, that will satisfy your needs, nailbenders thread can be found somewhere on here, as can the bored 6P etc etc

You are not going to get 200yds+ from a p60. The cheapest build for 200 yd light will be a direct drive Tenergy NiMH 2D Maglite with aspherical using an Ebay PT54 red emitter. You can go the Jayrob method with 32650 and a DW driver ($50+) but the cost rises and construction prices rise and difficulty rise accordingly. The run time on the Jayrob Feilong expensive 32650 is claimed 80 min. 8 Tenergy Ds cells can be purchased at the moment for $25 on Ebay. There are several heatsinks that can be modded for this DD MiNH use or make your own as I did. Built the whole light for less than $80 batteries included.
