i recently killed my spear clone R2 emitter

KD SKU: S006094

i dont have the soldering skills to re connect a driver, but i can solder a direct drive. (badly)

i need a recommendation for an emitter that is safe to use direct drive on a freshly charged 3.7v lithium..

and that will work ok with the spear clone reflector

id prefer to buy from a usa based company to avoid the 4 week wait.

shining beam has a few bare emitters.

any help appreciated.:candle:

I'm very satisfied w/ the R2 I got from Shining Beam, nice neutral white and good price. I picked up a Q3 5A warm tint too, looks great in my MiniM@G.

is it ok to run that emitter direct drive on 3.7v?

it sais 3.5v on shining beams site.

Where are you? I can help you out with re-building it if you happen to be close to Kingston.

Putting in a driver is no harder then swapping an emitter. Infact, I'll say adding a board is easier.

You're saying you blew the led, and there was no driver to start with?

its a thrower, really doesnt need to be multi mode, single mode direct drive will work, altho i am thinking about putting an mc-e in there just for ghits and siggles.

no idea what the mc-e would do to it as a thrower but im guessing it would 'throw' a lot of light and flood some?

re: mc-e usually that means there'll be a donut (dark spot in the middle). The mc-e isn't a throwing die. The center of any hotspot is vacant on the die (the intersection of the 4 pads). So to make a nice even beam the light has to be diffused, and diffused light is obviously not concentrated and thrown.

Wire up the mc-e and stick in in the reflector (before attaching to your light) you'll see what I mean. It's just the nature of multi-die leds. You want throw, it must be single die. (maybe you just have to try it to see how that all works. I had my doubts, thought I could find the way. I didn't)

i have a couple of throwy lights, i dont mind if this thrower becomes more floody, and artifacts in beams dont bother me as i only use my lights outdoors at night.

i would like to be certain my new LED will be safe to use on a freshly charged li-on (4.2v) tho?

which one?

Yes, you can run an emitter direct drive. As long as it has a decent heat sink....the voltage usually sags a bit when power comes on...and 4 volts gives a nice bright light!
