From what I think of area when I have been in a mumber of attics, the max distance I would need is only a 2 to 4 meters so most any gud 2xAA with krypton bulb will be more than enough.

These days any headlamp with a 1 to 3 watt LED will throw a spot beam that will be fine for dark attics. A 2nd light source like a mini mag LED flashlight mounted on a wrist strap comes in handy and can't be dropped down a hole.

Not sure how many stores sell headlamps in Pennsacola. Costco or Lowes
might.

This Coast H7 headlamp has variable focus

i work in the business side of cable the attics i deal with are somewhat tight areas and to much flood just reflects back. i carry a t10 olight and romisen rc-n3 II q5 also but i would love that kind of beam in a head lamp. my current one is a 1 watt brinkman that does ok and a coleman max that i absolutely despise. i work at night also and need to trace out the lines. Art let me know how that h7 works out for you

A tikka xp might be nice.
It has some thorw and a diffusor to get some flood if needed.

I think for higlighting a small area without much reflection of the sidewalls a handheld light should be more practical.
A Headlamp with much throw is not that ideal as you will have to hold your head in the exact same orientation while working to highlight your workplace.
If you have more flood this wont be nassecary as the light highlights a larger area.

I think the perfect light wood be a handheld light with throw and some sidespill which you can attach to something near your workplace (think of a magnet, a pocketclip...).
That way your workplace would be lit and you would not have to worry about head orientation as with a headlamp.
