Last night i was looking at the perfectly machined OP reflector in my P1D Q5, when i noticed something. THERE WAS A PIECE OF DIRT on it. More like a piece of dust or something actually, VERY visible. Im 99.9% sure that it wasnt there before. I have been carrying my fenix around for days on my belt and in my pocket. I will post a picture if i can.

Fenix heads are all sealed up so how can it possibly get in there?

It doesnt affect the actual beam as far as i can see, but it just bugs me, everytime i look at LED and reflector, there it is sticking out like a sore thumb. :sigh:
Maybe fenix should make thier heads more accesible, so we can remove pieces of dirt like that.

Should i email fenix?

It was probably just knocked loose from the space between the emitter, board, and reflector. You can open the head and get it out, isn't that hard. Everything twists apart.

I was really hoping to avoid taking it apart cos it voids warranty. I did subscribe to that tread that goes through taking the p1d apart though, if it does come to that..

Most (not all) Fenix heads are glued shut. It can be difficult to take them apart. You need to do a search on the P1D in particular. It can be difficult to open.

I've opened up a few L1Ds, L0D, P1. Never tried a P1D CE.

If it's a special edition, it may be unpotted and easy to open tho.

Im scared ill open it, wreck it, and then have to spend money on another one because i voided the warrantly in trying to fix something that i should have gone to them for in the first place.
:S

Even some Surefires have dust in the reflector so you might have not noticed it before or it might have been in a different place.

Does it move around when you shake the light?

no it doesnt,

but the thing is that you can take surefire reflectors out, on the p60s of course and you can clean them..

Well, if it was ME . . . .

i wouldn't do anything to remove it.

Just ignore that tiny bit o' dust, and go out and enjoy yer' new flashlight !

One more thing . . . .

Don't EVER shine a flashlight into your fancy (and expen$ive) new camera lens.

 ___ :eeksign:

Just tell yourself it makes NO real difference.

Trust me.

Im learning to ignore it :sigh:
, not easy though, i guess i will wait for the r2 or r4 P1d to come out and buy that one, rather then having two q5s
mean time ive been constantly been checking my bank account to see if my first paycheck (yay!) has been wired to me yet, after which ill head down to the hardware to store to pick me up a 6D mag and then rush home to order the T1. HOPEFULLY the T1 doesnt develop strange things like that piece of dust. argh...

haha i actually shined the full180lumens into my phones camera, why does it have any seriously bad outcomes?
