Ended up with a VERY purple LED, off center with an un-even beam.

I have no issues with the rest of the light, its an elegant design and Fenix-Store.com shipped next day. (I ordered sunday :D)

Here's the beamshot.

Anything to do but give this to a non-flashaholic and order another?

The GS has been known for a rectangle/oval beam. The Die is rectangle instead of round.

It should be fine as a gift though, it still functions well as a light.

That's really is a sad looking beam. It's a good thing these lights don't cost a arm and a leg.

They grade potatoes before they ship them, why not flashlights beams.

Why even have a lottery?

I can't really see whats wrong with that beam, besides the slight blue tint. All the gs leds puts out a oval beam, and the gs also has a "less pretty" beam than the previous versions.

You have a small, lightweight, long running, cheap, light which from all reports throws a very useful amount of light. How did you lose in the purchase?

The E01 I got has a fine olive finish, no aggressive knurling, well machined. But the beam is very purple, almost red. Never seen before. If I'll use it as gift, I would disgrace myself.

I got four of them a week or so ago. One has a noticeable edge to the spill. The other has a greenish cast to the spill. Other than that, they pretty much look like yours.

I don't think you "lost" the lottery. They're all that way. Don't bother ordering another with the hopes of it being significantly better.

+1

I would purchase the E01 knowing only that it's for back up purposes, for when I forgot my EDC. For $15 this can't be beat, and the beam shouldn't be such a big concern because it's designed to last a long time to get you out of a bind, not win white wall hunting contests.

Mine is that way too, but for close up work you don't really notice the really blue/purple tint. So, I think yours looks normal.

Smallest light I own thus far, except from the "Freebie" key chain light that comes from Lighthound. My freebie light ...with no reflector... is a MUCH better light in lumens AND beam pattern than the Fenix EO1 I just bought. Overall, I'm really disapointed with the EO1, though I may be over critical as I'm a newbie to all this, but a percetionist none the less. No biggies though as it was cheap at $15. I have the bluish purple tint as well with a lousy beam pattern. I ordered it for my gal anyway, so I'm not too worried about it :sssh:. Just gives me another legitimate out oto order something else! :twothumbs

I've had any number of 5mm lights with blue tint and I agree the tint is annoying. There are 1AAA lights with "snow" leds available from Arc and Peak which have much more neutral color, with a somewhat different beam profile. You might like one of those better.

5mm LEDs are not well known for perfect, uniform, white beams. The Fenix E01 is what it is, and some beams are bound to be bluer than others.

For a perfect, white beam, consider something Cree-powered, like the Fenix L0D-CE Q4. Yes, it is more expensive, but you are paying for the better emitter, better beam etc... If you paid more and got nothing more, you would feel cheated. The body of the E01 and L0D will cost roughly the same to machine, so all that extra money is spent at the business end.

I'm the last person to defend Fenix, but that beamshot is better than my ARC-GS which cost a whole lot more, and is probably only half as reliable.

I think people are expected too much from the EO1. its not bright and white and does not have crazy long run times ( well maybe in someone's eyes ) , its a simple flashlight!

Well the freebee keychain i got is brighter than my Eo1, and has a whiter tint, BUT i donno how long that freebee will run, where the eo1 is claimed to get 8 hrs on alkines. and if i was stuck in a power outage, im sure i can find a bunch of AAA in my house hold( tv remotes, toys, other flashlights) . and with the freebee, lol i wouldnt know where to look for the coin batt. except the store.

over all, if u expect this to be a tactical light, u will be disapointed:thumbsdow

if u expect this to be a back up light, to be attach to ur key chain, around ur neck or in ur pocket, to go find those replacement batt, or to find brighter flashlights, or a light weight flashlight to put in between ur teeth with out the pain for up close task, then u'll be happy :twothumbs
