I went camping...

Last night I went canoe camping down the Wisconsin River. I also had a hard time deciding. First I thought about A2? or McGizmo 27LT? (old school!) or a Peak 7-led McKinley???? :confused:

Finally decided on these lights:

SF L1 cree with diffuser - used it a lot.
Petzl Tikka with built in red filter - used it a lot.
Peak 7-led McKinley - didn't use at all, held spare for L1.
Peak 1-(red)led Matterhorn - didn't use it at all.
Arc-AAA - didn't use at all, but it was on my keys, so worth a mention.

My headlight was great. But the L1 with beam diffuser on it was a great area light when we were setting up in the dark on an island. I'd give a high burst here and there to help find things quicker.

The island was a dry sand bar in the middle of the river! Super fun!

@ Knightrider: that reminds me of my trip to Sweden, where we went camping on an island also... we came there by motorboat, the only things we had were some ponchos and food and.... a Ghettoblaster :green:

We made a small fire on which we BBQ-ed some food, a knife we had, but no spoons or forks... so we made them ourselves by what nature had to offer. Then, we had to make a shelter for the night. We found a large tree where a branch had broken half off. It hung down, nearly to the ground. This one we used to hang the two ponchos from, and under these we slept :huh:

It was, so to say, BIG FUN although mosquitos had bitten me hard: about 7 spots...

...There was a half moon that just dazzled and the stars in the high desert away from the big city light pollution were magnificent. We really did not need light for our night hike....

That´s the BEST thing ever! :party:

When I go camping, I just take 3 lights:

Fenix TK20 for general use
Surefire E1B Backup inside my pocket, as a backup light.
Quark AA in my tent (due to the moon mode).

The best flashlight camping is a headlamp. :D

Even the Arc AAA CS seems too bright around the campsite.

I agree on both points.

I just wish Arc made a headlamp.
