I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

OK, I suspect I'll break down and get one anyway (just got my email from Charlie, and I'm very close to pulling the trigger), but it's almost Christmas and other things are pulling at my wallet. What attracts me to the Lionheart is the workmanship and the variable output, along with the extreme brighness. I don't need 64 levels though (and yeah, I know there is a 5 level mode - one more reason to buy it), but is there something reasonably close to it?

Charlie, if you're reading this, you may have an order yet today /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif .

In one word, "NO".. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have my Bare Aluminium LH and was so awed by the workmanship and performance that I've just put down my money for the CPF LionHeart Special Edition in Black HA3. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I thought 64 levels would be kinda usless, too. But when you scroll from bright to dim, or dim to bright, you don't notice 64 seperate levels. It's just a quick (3.7 secs), nice even flow. You can stop at whatever brightness you need.

I like it so well I haven't programed it for the 5 levels, or anything else.

I have a bare Al LH.
Nothing in my collection compares to the versatility of the LH and I carry it every day.
In my quest for the perfect EDC, the LH is easily the best match so far.
Of course, I will have to continue to purchase other lights just to make sure I have the best /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Pull the trigger. You won't regret it.---Marc

Charlie, don't forget me! I had sent you a MO for the LH!

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Well, Charlie's sold out of LionHearts (now), so if you don't already have one on the way then it's off to Tactical Warehouse for the Black HA III LH, which starts at $279 without battery, $299 with battery, and only goes up if you want the full kit. If you can find someone willing to let you have a VIP for less than $400, that's an option as well... but not as bright. Otherwise, you're looking at approximately $280 for a U2 which also has variable output, but sacrifices throw.

But if you're willing to give up the multiple levels of brightness and go for a two-stage which is less expensive than the above lights, look at an Aleph 1 head or an Aleph 3 head from Darrell, Chop, McGizmo, or TylerDurden, among other makers. That'll give you much throw and a pretty good light, but you'll have only two stages of brightness - which is plenty for me, most days. The days where it won't be plenty is where one of the above named lights will come in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Sometimes it does pay to strike early. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Do you want us to talk you into the light or out of it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Purhaps there is another light that will do what you need it to do. Depending on what you use the flashlight for there might be something that works for you. But it is hard to tell since you haven't said what you need/want the light for.

Heh - neither, really. I'm just weighing options. As for what I need it for, well, I don't! I have a perfectly servicable Mag 3D for beating on and a 70,000CP Ultra Stinger if I want a lot of light or if I simply want to fry my retinas. I have a Blaster 3P if I want to fry my retinas with a higher color temp light source. I have a new 1W luxeon Streamlight JR which I love, a new Everest from Peak, a bunch of very nice keychain sized lights - including a new Streamlight keylight, and an Arc AAA - one of the first Arc LSs with all the goodies, a Xenon/LED Twin Task for the car, so on and so forth, yada yada yada. This is like wristwatches or firearms for me - I don't need another, but want another really cool one. It's just not as expensive an addiction /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Well, if you want a portable pocket-rocket, the LH comes pretty close. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It'll easily replace your Streamlight Jr and your ARC LS in everyday usage, and is plenty small. But are you able to pony up the money?

I'd look at that first. Tactical Warehouse will have a few if Charlie doesn't... but you'll pay extra.

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

It's hard to find an argument against getting one, especially if you think that you might end up buying more than one light over time to meet your different needs. I would say that if you can afford one at all, get one. If you find that your use doesn't justify the cost, you should be able to sell it and recoup your costs.

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

*Sigh*

I had a feeling it would go like this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif . OK then, I'll go for it. Thanks!

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

If you can afford it I would deffinately get one. After reading the reviews I don't think anything compares at this point. I also think the prices are only going to go up on these after TW sells out.

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

yep it is the best light out..its amazeing all it does i cant say enough about it.

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Dang - I need my head examined. Just sent a wad of cash off to get a Lionheart. Now comes the wait. I should be familiar with this sensation from my watch habit! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

I think you'll be happy. Which type did you end up picking up?

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Got the black one. I hate waiting! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'d like a Lionheart, but... - Alternatives?

Since you seem to like collecting them, I think you will be happy with the LionHeart. It is a excelant example of what a modded flashlight can do. In fact you may never buy stock again.

I don't know if we will ever see a interface as good as the LionHeart. If you haven't seen the manual you need to check it out.
