I think no matter what happens to Hussein, the US will still continue with its plan to restructure Iraq's government and get some sort of foundation (socioeconomical and political) going.
In all truth, the administration would probably prefer to see him and his sons dead. But even if they're alive, keeping them from gaining power again is a start.

Too dangerous to be left alive. I'd suggest doing a bunch of brain scans, in hopes we could later diagnose this sort of thing, then put him to sleep. Simple, peaceful, gone. No glory.

I'm still not sure if anyone knows if Saddam is dead or alive or gone somewhere. If he is alive but has had one leg blown off, can you imagine the disappointment of his doubles?

Either way, the guy's 6' under... It does beg the question though, since the last big restaurant blast, how everything (command and control, Baghdad Bob, no government offical showin' up for work, etc) came crashing down after that hit...

let's assume there's 3000 liters of bio/tox in the caches of weapons of mass destruction that bush has preached about.
let's have a cut off date of july 4th.
for every liter they find, saddam gets one lash.
for every liter of the total number minus what was found, bush gets one lash.
seems fair enough.

Regarding WMD, there appears to be little evidence so far that Saddam had much; however, based on the economic hardship he caused the country and the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people that died needlessly during his tenure, I say it's good that he's gone.
It's too bad that the UN couldn't agree on firm action a long time ago, leaving it to the US and the UK to solve the problem.
During the coming years while Iraq opens the oil wells again to rebuild their country, we'll benefit from lower gas prices. For a while, OPEC will be less able to manipulate price and supply.
I'm hopeful that the human rights situation improves in the Arab world, particularly for women.

There is another possibility. we might already have him. Perhaps our government has decided that they can get more info from him if nobody knows we've got him. Better a missing person than a martyr or something like that?
