I have a device that will require (6) D size rechargeable batteries. I'm not sure if the 10,000mAH gems I've seen on Ebay are worth the money or if a 5000mAH like a Tenergy will suffice. I saw online where a guy in Hong Kong is selling Eneloop AA-D adapters and was wondering if the 2000mAH AA Eneloops would work just as well? I'm trying to power a Game Camera and Alkalines are a bit expensive - I might need to recharge the Eneloops more often but would they work in the long run? Thanks.

An AA NiMH cell in an AA-D adapter will work fine for most applications, as long as you accept the need to recharge a bit more often.

Genuine, high quality 10,000 mAh D cells will also be very functional (and how will you charge them?), but of course they cost quite a lot. Only you can make that choice.

Ebay is often considered to be a bad place to buy batteries. You may see cheap prices, but it can be a bit of a lottery.

I am running four 2AA-D adapters in a 4D maglight. Running 1500mah cells, I get 3000mah which is enough for what I need since i don't use the light often, and it actually makes the light lighter. It seems to run my dropin well enough, I guess you would have to see if the cells could handle the current of your application

if I was using the 10,000mah cells, I would be getting more than 3 times the capacity but initial cost is a lot higher

It's funny, to me one advantage of the 10Ah NiMH cells is that they make my light heavier. When I grab my 4D I like it to feel like a solid club - a dual purpose light/weapon. When I want something lighter the 4D isn't my choice of flashlight.
