When I was recently in WalMart I came across these -
Ray O Vac single AAA LED penlight $2.95 - has a (reverse) clicky switch and the beam is a pretty narrow spot - which may not be general - but has its applications. My sample has a pretty bright but blue tinted beam.
They come in other body colors blue and orange (I can't remember if there was a black(?)).
Now this other one -
Black & Decker LED Crank light was at a bargain price - for me - $2.00!!!
WalMart seems to have about 3 different crank LED lights now - among these was this Black & Decker possibly the most well known/respected name - but I saw no price at 2 separate WalMarts - so I scanned it, and it came out to be $2.00 - I took it to the checkout and it still scanned $2.00 - so I wasn't going to argue, and bought it.
It works pretty well a quick few cranks like 5-6 will immediately give some light - doing something reasonable like 20-30 rotations - will give enough light to play around with - according to the package it uses Li-Ion batteries - so those are not only efficient but also hold their charge well.
The light first switches on with a single LED - which is a focussed spot (with some strange side-spill due to the non-circular reflector) - then the next click of the switch makes all 3 LEDs come on they are well converged to a single (brighter) spot - with the strange side spill being even more emphasized.
At $2.00 for me this was stupidly cheap -
anyone else found it at this price?
I'll probably do reviews of these cheapies.
