Inova says use petroleum jelly on O-rings ?

I just read on the instruction sheet that came with an X1 i just purchased to lube the threads and o-rings with petrolem jelly. I've always read and heard not to use this. Are they mistaken, or are their rings made of something the others aren't?

If it's nitril it should be fine, maybe that's what the o rings are made of?

I'm not sure how they want it but in the diesel field you never let a petroleum prduct get on rubber gaskets, or the rubber air suspension bags. Mainly cause' it eats the rubber away.
