When I tighten the end down on my Inova X1 Gen 3 light it flickers at a rate that may cause a seizure.

Anyone know if there is a fix or should I just send it back. Shame as I like Inova, but this kind of stuff happens with all companies from time to time.

Thanks

I have several Inova lights including X1 Gen 3 but never encountered the behaviour you describe in any of them. I would ask for a replacement if I were you.

Get in touch with Inova, they'll sort it out.

Three thoughts come to mind:

1. Just for giggles try cleaning all of the threads and trying another battery if you haven't done so yet

2. If its in the electronics etc, yep she's a goner

3. You may own the only strobing x1 in existence :)

Try a fresh battery.

There is another thread on CPF about the 3rd generation Inova X1. In it, there's at least one other report of the X1 "blinking" when the battery voltage reaches a lower level.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I ran 3 runtime tests, two with brand new alkalines of different brands and one with a fully charged nimh battery. The X1 starts to flicker at 20-25 minutes with the alkalines and always flickers instantly with the AA nimh.

I let the light cool down for 1 hour between each test. After the batteries were used for 25 minutes it would always flicker with the same batteries even though they were not close to drained and the light was allowed to cool all the way down to room temperature.

I also cleaned the threads and contacts to make sure it was making a clean contact.

I will be sending it back to Inova for a replacement as I like the light.

Thanks All,

PL

My X1 starts flickering somewhere between 1.5 - 2 hours with alkalines. I haven't tried NiMH.

I'd guess that your light is defective and the threshold for the strobing is set at too high a voltage. That would explain the alkalines lasting a short period of time and the NiMH (which start off at a lower voltage than alkalines) strobing right away.

BTW - My strobing stops after around 1/2 hour. Did you notice that too?
