Picked up an Inova X5 at Fry's today. More than anything else, I was expecting the X5 to feel good in the hand, but that's not the case for me. I find the edge created by the flutes cut into the light to be a little too sharp. Not a bid deal, but still a disappointment. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

On the plus side, the light is brighter than expected and I really like the whole switch setup. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I thought I was the only one who felt the same way about this light. It's a minor gripe but it is a pain to have blow pocket lint out of the recessed LEDs.

Hi.

I had that problem too... so now I use the supplied holster and clip to my belt. It actually feels good, even when I am driving the car. I wear a shirt/ t-shirt out so the holster/light is not obvious.

I've never handled the older X5, but I recently purchased an X5T with the new octagonal body and it feels very comfortable in my hand. No sharp edges on mine.

My beef with it is it ROLLS... and so far ALL of the body stiles will roll (from the "original" to the current hex shaped body.

Now on a larger light, like the Brinkman Long Life, I can fix that by adding a clip like the Nite-Ize 'flashlight ring'.

But I'm still pondering how to make the X5T roll proof and still keep it holsterable.... I wonder if anyone had put a clip on yet....

I just tie a lanyard to mine and that keeps it from rolling.

Well...

...if you think the X5 is bright, you need to try a Mr. Bulk Mini-LGI. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif It's the same height as the X5, a bit thicker but the light output is far brighter, almost 100 lux brighter! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Well...

It looks like the X5 is brighter from those pics? Also, the X5 is marketed as a flood light.

Ummmm...

...look at the hot spot. The Mini-LGI is clear brighter. Also, the Light Meter and my eyes tell me the Mini is much brighter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

FNG,

Pictures can be misleading. Ya hadda be there.

I felt the same way about my X5 and X5T (not the new style with the flat hex faces) when I got them. So...
X5T-3.jpg

I started out by machining small groves around the light. It made it less likely to slip in the hand when
holding the button on for extended periods, but I still had to grip the light too tight for my liking. I
made the groves bigger, but didn't like the harsh feel, so then I bead blasted the groved area, and
although it was better, I still wasn't happy. The picture shows the remainder of this treatment on the
front part of the barrel.

I realized that I really prefer the SureFire style tactical or combat grip when it comes to using lights with
tailswitches, so I turned down the rear portion of the barrel as far as I thought was safe, and popped a fat
O-Ring against the rear shoulder of the cut down area. I'm happy now, and the X5 still fits in its holster,
with the O-Ring just above the top.

Nice job with your X5! It rocks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

The pictures of the X5 next to the Mini-LGI really show the color difference. The X5 is very white, while the LS in the Mini-LGI has that typical greenish cast. My Badboy 500 is that way too.

The color difference makes it that much harder to compare the brightness.
