I own an older model Inova X5. Just today I discovered that there is a newer version. How does the newer model compare to the older? Should I buy a newer version? Is the push button a big improvement?

Also, has anyone tried the TAD-OS carry pouch?

Thanks.

Can't comment on the old model. But I just got the new X5T with the newly machined sides.

The fit and finish is excellent. The button on the back is really well done and seems pretty useful.

Hope that helps,
Christopher

I have both the first generation and the newer version with the groved sides. I like the newer one best. The tail switch is great and makes a big improvement to the light.

I have also been using the TAD-OS pouch for the last fourteen months - a great bit of kit. Very over built so it is not going to break and it can be used in the vertical or horizontal positions.

Regards,

Ed

Alberto, sounds like you are describing the differences between the "Original X5" & the "Newer X5T" which already has the stainless steel head cap, advertised 15% brighter, & tail switch, and "grooved fluting" along the body. See reviews here: Inova X5 and Inova X5T

The "NEWEST" version has a "Hex/Octagon" body, replacing the "fluting". See: "Newest Version"

Here's a pic of the latest version:

Funny, on TadGear's site they show the "newest" body style in the main photo, but the "newer" style in their "details" photos.

I had seen these confusing photos before I ordered my XT5s from another source, and assumed that they were some kind of prototype because nobody else had the same photo. Are you sure this is actually a "newest" model?

The pic that Bart posted is absolutely the "newest" version.

I think I like that price from CountyComm.com, seeing as it has 2 sets of batteries as well as the "tactical holster"! However, I would like the "newest" version, I wonder what version Frank/Nick has?

countycomm shows the older body but says it is the x5T. Was there only one improved tactical model?

- Inova X5(original)
-- No stainless steel "head cap"
-- Switch is a "twist on/off" mechanism at the LED end of the flashlight
-- Body has "fluting"

- Inova X5T(newer)
-- Stainless steel "head cap" around the LEDs to "protect" them & body
-- Switch now at the "butt end", still a "twist on/off" however now has a "tactical" momentary on"
-- Enlarged lanyard hole
-- 15% brighter (?)
-- Still has "fluting" on the body

- Inova X5T(newest modification)
-- "Fluting" gone, replaced with hex style body though the front & back are still round.
-- "I" am not aware of any other improvements/modifications (perhaps others are?)

I don't own the older model but I understand that the new model (which I own) has the following differences;

- stainless steel head cap
- 15% brighter
- tail switch

I believe also (although I'm not really sure) that the lanyard holes are larger, designed for parachute riser cord.

If it is the newer and not newest, would the hex over the fluting be any real advantage?

I don't know, personal preference? Some said the "fluting" edges were a bit sharp...and without "knurling" it was a bit "slippery" to hold on to...six of one and a half a dozen for the other?
