This 'deal' I got on a new S-F 6P from the evil-bay is turning my hair grey. Oops, too late... already there! I've gone over the various P60L & clone stickies, leads, commercial sites, etc. I have severe 'lurker's forefingers' from researching the 'best' drop-in for that spare S-F... from the crap shoot of the D-X 6090 to the elusive Malkoffs. I got a Fenix '4in1' to evaluate the hot P2D/L1D Q5 Premium '180 Lumens' on Turbo. Oddly, I like the P60L in my first S-F - a 6P LED - just about as well. And, sure, it takes 2 CR123s - but they will last a lot longer - most say ~6 hr at full 80 Lumens, with ~11 hr useful. That's pretty good service.

Now, my previous top dawg illuminator was the dated Inova X5 - it's pair of CR123s seemed to puke around 12 hr - and it illuminates in a flood, a bit better coverage than the Fenix, S-F, and X1s. It's brighter than the 2nd gen X1, maybe barely so the 3rd gen. The X5's forte is it's coverage and useful life on a pair of Li primaries - it seemed a likely choice for the emergency kit, at home and in the Jeep. But, now I have a second 6P body - and, a P60L is $39 - $32 locally, just about what another X5 would cost. Yeah, it's a no-brainer... sorry Inova.

What do you think? In a use where service life on a set of batteries may be important - and an honest and decent Lumen output, as opposed to a short-lived solar-level output, would be better appreciated - what would you do - another X5 or a P60L for the 6P? Or, what's behind Curtain #3?? Any serious suggestions would be gratefully received and considered - except the usual ones re get secondary cells - primaries will do fine - Li is super. And - the 8-12 hr life is a requirement.

Now, for 'play' lights, I'll stick with AA/AAA cells - alkaline or Li - or, some of the collection of NiMH secondaries, too. That 2.0W X1 is a great pocket light. No run-time worries, easy/affordable to replace (I just bought 3rd gen X1 locally for $14!), decently made, and... gasp... made in the USA! Yeah, now I have the Fenix kit, too. Gotta stop this madness!

Target stores are clearing out the titanium colored body Inova X5s for under $25.

Just depends on your needs I guess. The 6P is miles ahead of the Inova as far as moddability. Just about anything you can think of for a 6P. However I have 5 or 6 X5's as well. I wish the Inova would take 17670's. Inova are you listening? Enjoy! :naughty:

I'm in the same boat... Information overload combined with everyones opinions and personal preferences, its a lot to ask when you're not made of $$$ and one of everything is not an option:sigh:. I chose the extreme mod-ability of the P6, that way I can re-configure it as my preferences evolve. Its not the cheapest up front, but I'm banking on the fact that it will last an eternity, and the availability of replacement mod parts will never make it out-dated. For $20 in parts you can make your own drop in too, and have something really unique. How about a Q5 running at over 1 amp+multi modes and a smooth reflector for throw? Or maybe a Seoul emitter combined with OP reflector for max flood?

I dont have first hand owner experience with the X5 so I cant offer any comment on that.

The X5 is an awesome light and I would recommend keeping the one you have, but if you think you'll get more use out of the P60L, then go for that.

I spent some grocery moola yesterday. The P60L came home with me for $33.90 inc S/T... went through it's clampack like 'Sherman through Atlanta' when I got home - super, now I have a 6P LED for the house and Jeep. The old X5 still has a home, too, although it likely won't gain a sibling. The cheaper to run X1s will continue to see more regular use. Also, a few other 'closeout' goodies made the trip. Dangerous!
